Men's Lacrosse Stymied By Trinity, 16-6

HARTFORD, Conn.—Junior Connor Flaherty (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and sophomore Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) each contributed a goal and an assist as visiting Babson College was defeated by Trinity College, 16-6, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at Sheppard Field. 

With its third straight loss, Babson falls to 1-5 on the year, while Trinity is now 2-4 overall. 

Seniors Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.) and John Harrison (Pembroke, Mass.), and first-years Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) and Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) all scored once for the Beavers. Sophomore Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) collected a team-high six ground balls, while junior Zach Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) tied for game-high honors with two caused turnovers.

Sophomore John Caraviello (Wellesey, Mass.) finished with three goals and two assists, while senior Ryan DeSimone (Saint James, N.Y.) scored three times for the Bantams. First-year Scott Morgan (Grand Rapids, Mich.) won 14-of-22 face-offs and scooped up a game-high nine ground balls in the victory.

The Green and White fell behind 2-0 early in the opening quarter before cutting its deficit in half on Dillon's tally at the 5:08 mark. Trinity responded by notching nine straight goals while holding the Beavers the scoreless for nearly 34 minutes to build an 11-1 advantage late in the third quarter. The Bantams led 7-1 at the half and scored the four times to open the third period before Coan's goal with 1:22 left in the stanza.

Flaherty converted a feed from sophomore Austin Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.) at 11:39 of the fourth quarter, and Babson followed with three of the next four goals, including a man-up tally from Mishkind to get within 14-6 with just under five minutes remaining in the game.

Sophomore Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) stopped 12 saves over the first 43 minutes, while first-year Kenan Glasgold (Princeton, N.J.) made five of his six saves in the fourth quarter for the Beavers. Senior Henry Coote (Wayne, Pa.) was superb in between the pipes for the Bantams, making 13 of his 19 saves in the first half.

Babson, which was outshot 52-36 on the afternoon, was successful on 7-of-8 clears and forced 16 turnovers, but won just 10-of-26 face-offs.

Trinity finished with a 33-27 edge in ground balls and scored on two of its five man-up opportunities.

The Beavers return to action next Wednesday when they travel to Bowdoin for a 7 p.m. start, while the Bantams host defending national champion Tufts on Saturday at 1 p.m.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are now 1-5 all-time against Trinity and have dropped four straight games in the series.
• With his fourth-quarter assist, Fabel has now recorded at least one point in 18 straight games going back to last season.
• Babson's six goals are its fewest since a 10-3 loss to Colorado College on March 20, 2015, a stretch of 16 games.
• The Green and White, which entered the game ranked 18th nationally in clears, is now 108-for-122 (88.5 percent) on the year.
