Men's Lacrosse Places 14 on NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—The Babson College men's lacrosse program had 14 players honored for their hard work in the classroom when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday.

Seniors Colt Bordonaro (Portland, Ore.) and Jared Lucich (Point Pleasant, N.J.) were recognized for the third year in a row and juniors Tommy French (Rumson, N.J.) and Bennett Smith (Lake Oswego, Ore.) were named to the squad for the second consecutive season.

Graduate students Sammy Kalishman (Clarksville, Md.) and Jacob Tauss (San Marcos, Calif.), junior Will Reading (Southlake, Texas), and sophomores Andrew Berardi (Orleans, Mass.), Cooper Chapman (Hingham, Mass.), Seamus Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Anthony Stillwell (Weston, Mass.), Ryan St. Onge (Avon, Conn.), Ethan Swenson (Phoenix, Ariz.), and Luke Wang (Simsbury, Conn.) all garnered the first NEWMAC Academic All-Conference awards of their respective careers.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale after the 2024 fall semester, achieved second-year academic status, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire semester.

A Finance major, Bordonaro started six of his 12 games at attack this season, finishing with two goals and three assists for five points. He tallied a goal and an assist in a win over Nichols and collected a season-high three ground balls in a conference victory over Emerson. A four-year veteran, he started 18 of his 43 career games and produced 23 goals and eighth assists for 31 points. Lucich, a Finance major, saw action in 10 games this spring as a reserve face-off specialist. He won 11 of his 25 face-offs and scooped up seven ground balls, including winning 4-of-7 face-offs with a season-high three ground balls in a conference triumph over Wheaton. A four-year veteran, he appeared in 29 career games and won 56 of 112 face-offs (.500) with 22 ground balls.

Smith, a Finance major, started 19 of the 20 games this spring and finished fourth on the team in scoring with 34 points on 19 goals and 15 assists while scooping up 30 ground balls. He had at least one point in 17 outings, including six points (2g, 4a) in the win over Nichols and four goals and one assists in an NCAA Tournament victory over Western Connecticut. A three-year veteran and two-time All-NEWMAC selection, he has career totals of 52 goals, 75 assists and 127 points. French, a Finance major, has appeared in three games in his career, scoring one goal and recording one ground ball and two caused turnovers.

Kalishman, a Real Estate & Finance major, played short-stick defensive midfield in all 20 games this season. He matched his career high with 50 ground balls and caused 10 turnovers in addition to producing four goals and three assists for seven points. A five-year veteran and two-time All-NEWMAC selection, he appeared in 77 career games and recorded 42 caused turnovers and 172 ground balls and ranks 12th on Babson's all-time list for career ground balls. A Finance major, Tauss missed a month of this season with an injury and finished with eight appearances, scoring 13 goals and added two assists for 15 points. He scored three goals in a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal win over MIT, and added three-goals games in the NCAA Tournament against both Western Connecticut and Wesleyan. A five-year veteran, he played in 65 career games and finished with 78 goals and 25 assists for 103 points.

An Accounting major, Reading was Babson's top face-off specialist in all 20 games this season and earned All-NEWMAC honors. He won 218-of-399 face-offs (.546), which ranks second on the program's single-season chart for face-off wins, and led the team with 104 ground balls. A three-year veteran, he has appeared in 42 career games and won 290 of 548 face-offs (.529) with 132 ground balls.

An Accounting major, Rooney started all 20 games at attack this season and led the team in scoring with 63 points (35g, 28 a), earning his second All-NEWMAC recognition. He ranked in the top seven in the conference in total goals, assists and points. The two-year veteran has started 33 of his 34 career games, scoring 66 goals and adding 39 assists for 105 points.

Stillwell, Berardi and Chapman are Business majors who were strong contributors to the Beaver offense this spring. Stillwell (19 games, four starts) was seventh on the team in scoring with 19 goals and two assists for 21 points, with six multi-goals games including a four-goal performance in a win over No. 19 Union; Berardi (17 games, nine starts) was eighth on the team in scoring with 14 goals and two assists for 16 points, including five multi-goal contests with a three-goal outing against UMass Boston; and Chapman (17 games) tied for ninth on the team in scoring with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points, including a goal and two assists in an NCAA Tournament win over Western Connecticut.

An Accounting major, St. Onge played in all 20 games with four starts for the Babson defense. He finished third on the team with 16 caused turnovers, including four in a win over Nichols, and scooped up 21 ground balls. Wang, an undecided major, made nine appearances with four starts and scored four goals and three assists for seven points. A Finance/Accounting major, Swenson saw action in four games this spring as a midfielder.

The Beavers finished 14-6 overall this season after capturing their third consecutive NEWMAC Tournament championship and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
