TAMPA, Fla.—Sophomores Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) and Taylor Segreti (North Potomac, Md.) each scored twice and despite building a three-goal first-half lead, Babson College fell to Ithaca College, 15-7, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Thursday night at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex on the campus of the University of Tampa.

With the loss, Babson is now 1-3 on the year, while Ithaca, which is receiving votes in the USILA national poll, moves to 5-1 overall.

Senior Scott Doten (Western Springs, Ill.), junior Connor Flaherty (Honoye Falls, N.Y.) and first-year Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) each scored once for the Beavers. Sophomore Austin Fabel (East Rockway, N.Y.) had two assists, while junior Zach Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) combined for 11 ground balls and five caused turnovers on the night.

Sophomore Jake Cotton (Framingham, Mass.) finished with three goals and three assists to lead the Bombers. Sophomore Steven Landspurg (Kinnelon, N.J.) and junior Grant Osadchey (Ithaca, N.Y.) each won 9-of-13 face-offs, and senior Eil Gobrecht (Ithaca, N.Y.) led all players with eight ground balls in the win.

Brown and Dillon scored just 50 seconds apart to give Babson a 2-0 lead at the 8:33 mark of the first quarter, and Segreti followed with his first goal of the season to extend the lead to three with 4:17 left in the stanza. Ithaca got on the board late in the first quarter and then pulled within one on a man-up tally by  senior Michael Walker (Haddonfield, N.J.) with 10:45 to go in the second quarter. Doten and Flaherty netted back-to-back goals to match the Beavers' biggest lead of the game at 5-2 with 6:32 to go in the period, but sophomore Stephen Morrell (Palmyra, N.Y.) scored twice late in the quarter to get the Bombers within 5-4 at the break.

Brown gave the Green and White its final lead of the night with a man-up goal 2:36 into the third quarter, but Ithaca responded with four markers over the next 2:50 to go in front 9-6. Cotton set up a Gobrecht score with 5:57 left in the stanza and then notched a goal of his own to give the Bombers an 11-6 edge going to the fourth quarter.

Segreti cut the Beavers deficit to 11-7 on his second goal of the game with 12:13 remaining in the contest, but it's as close as they would get. Cotton and Walker pushed the advantage to six at the 9:27 mark with consecutive tallies, and the Bombers added a pair of late scores for the final margin.

Sophomore goalie Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) made a career-high 14 saves for Babson, while senior Scott Sidnam (Camillus, N.Y.) stopped 11 shots for Ithaca.

The Beavers, who were outshot 47-24, converted their only man-up chance of the night and went 26-of-29 on clear opportunities.

The Bombers, who won 18-of-26 face-offs, also finished with a 41-23 edge in ground balls.

Babson will return to action on Saturday when it takes on Colorado College at 10 a.m. in Lakeland, Fla., while Ithaca travels to Oneonta on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
