Box Score McDougle Matches Single-Game Record With Four Assists as Beavers Win 12th Straight Road Game
WENHAM, Mass.—Junior Jacki Merrigan (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) each scored twice as part of a six-goal second half to help ninth-ranked Babson College defeat Gordon College, 6-0, in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.
With its third straight win, Babson is now 15-2 overall, while Gordon falls to 7-10 after its second consecutive loss to a top-10 team.
Senior Staci Swallow (South Portland, Maine) and sophomore Lauren Drakeley (Woodbury, Conn.) both scored once, while senior Kelsi McDougle (Hopedale, Mass.) matched her career high and tied a single-game school record with four assists for the Beavers. First-year goalkeeper Deirdre Barry (Longmeadow, Mass.) did not have to make a save as the Green and White recorded its 10th shutout of the year, matching the 2004 and 2015 squads for the most in a single season.
After a frustrating first half that saw Fighting Scots senior goalkeeper Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) make 11 stops, Babson scored five times off of penalty corners in the second half. Swallow gave the visitors a 1-0 lead just 1:05 after halftime and Tango extended the lead to two with the first of her two goals at the 48:03 mark.
McDougle set up the Beavers final four tallies, beginning with Merrigan's goal to make it 3-0 with 6:36 remaining. Tango gave the Green and White a four-goal lead with her 14th marker of the year 58 seconds later, and Merrigan scored again with 5:18 left to make it 5-0. Drakeley capped the scoring with 95 seconds left in the contest.
Hicks finished with 14 stops for Gordon, which was outshot 31-1 by Babson. The Beavers also enjoyed a 16-0 advantage on penalty corners.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to the University of New England for a 5 p.m. start, while the Fighting Scots will travel north to face the Nor'easters on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
