Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—Bowdoin College scored seven first-inning runs en route to a 16-9 victory over Babson College in non-conference baseball action at Chain of Lakes Park on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Bowdoin is now 3-4 on the year, while Babson drops to 2-2 overall.
Senior Cole DiRoberto (Worcester, Mass.) had three hits and two RBI, and was one of six players to record a multi-hit game and drive in two runs. Sophomroe Sean Mullaney (Leominster, Mass.) reached base four times, scoring twice with two RBI, while first-year Nick Sadler (Atkinson, N.H.) went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of runs batted in.
Sophomore Jacob Weiss (Irvine, Calif.) went 3-for-6 with two runs scored for the Beavers. Senior Dillon Gonzalez (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomores Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.), Kevin Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.), and Owen Shea (Northborough, Mass.) all finished with two hits.
Bowdoin's first six hitters reached base in the top of the first as it sent 11 men to the plate to a build a 7-0 lead. The Green and White got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the frame, and cut its deficit to 7-3 after senior Rob Caggiano (Medford, Mass.) plated Joe Zanca (Braintree, Mass.) with a two-out single in the bottom of the second.
Polar Bears' sophomore Evann Dumont-LaPointe (Kirkland, Quebec) led off the third with a double and later scored the first of two runs in the frame. He drove in another run an inning later, and Bowdoin added two more runs in the fifth to push its lead to 12-3.
Shea and junior George Crowley (Watertown, Mass.) came through with back-to-back two-out singles to score a pair of runs in the seventh, and the Beavers used two doubles, two walks and a hit batsman in the last of the ninth to score three times.
Senior Erik Jacobsen (Milton, Mass.) earned the win for the Polar Bears, giving up six runs on 15 hits and striking out six.
First-year John Flogel (Summit, N.H.) suffered the loss in his collegiate debut for the Green and White.
Both teams return to action on Monday as Babson takes on Eastern Connecticut State at 9:05 a.m., while Bowdoin will face Endicott in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
