BEVERLY, Mass.—Senior All-American Morgan Lockwood (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal 6:54 into the first overtime period as visiting Babson College opened its season with a 2-1 victory over Endicott College in non-conference field hockey action at North Field on Friday night.

The Beavers, now 1-0, open their season with a win for the third consecutive season while the Gulls fall to 0-1.

Junior Caroline Malone (Walpole, Mass.) gave Babson the lead just 12:43 into the first half, taking a pass from sophomore Melanie Jordan (Westford, Mass.) and slipping it past Endicott sophomore goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottsdown, Pa.). Despite an 11-4 advantage in shots and being awarded eight penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes, the Beavers were clinging to a 1-0 lead at the break.

Endicott pulled even just 1:44 into the second half as junior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) scored off a feed from classmate Kathryn Walker (Middlebury, Conn.). Both defenses clamped down for the remainder of the half with senior Kayla Florence (Milton, Mass.) making her only two saves on the night, while senior Lizetta Solarik (Carmel, N.Y) stopped five second-period shots for the Gulls.

The Beavers, who held a 22-8 advantage in shots on the night, dominated the extra session, outshooting Endicott 6-0. Malone nearly ended the game just over four minutes into overtime but was denied by senior back Emily O'Halloran's (Cheshire, Conn.) defensive save, leading to Lockwood's heroics just minutes later.

Babson returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to play Union College in a 1 p.m. start while Endicott will be at Salem State on Thursday night at 6 p.m.
