Men's Lacrosse Rolls Past Manhattanville, 20-5

PURCHASE, N.Y.—Senior Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) scored four goals and added three assists to lead 14 different players into the scoring column as visiting Babson College cruised past Manhattanville College, 20-5, in non-conference men's lacrosse action at GoValiants.com Field on Friday afternoon.

Junior Alex Packer (Hudson, Ohio), sophomore Phil Russo (Middleton, Mass.) and first-years Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.) and John Harrison (Pembroke, Mass.) each scored twice for the Beavers, who opened up a 9-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, moving to 5-5 overall with the win. Manhattanville, who got goals from five different players and three assists from senior Will Sahakian (Natick, Mass.), dropped to 0-10 on the season.

Patinkin had a hand in the first three goals of the game, scoring a pair and assisting on Packer's first tally to grab a 3-0 lead just 4:22 into the first period. Junior Ryan Dawidjian (Worcester, Mass.) and Low scored 67 seconds apart midway through the stanza and the Beavers scored four times in the final 3:58 of the quarter, including another goal and an assist from Patinkin, for a nine-goal bulge.

The teams traded goals in the second quarter as Babson took a 12-3 lead to the locker room before scoring eight of the game's final 10 goals in the second half. Low scored his 12th goal of the season to open up the second half and Patinkin and John Obadia (Port Washington, N.Y.) scored 18 seconds apart to give the Beavers a 15-3 lead with 9:04 remaining in the third quarter. After the Valiants scored two of the next three goals, Babson closed with four unanswered tallies, including the first career goal by sophomore Jon Hale (Thomaston, Conn.), over the final 6:29 of the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Senior James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) earned the win for the Beavers making one save in 15 minutes of action. Junior Adam Daroff (Pepper Pike, Ohio), senior Ryan Lee (Wallingford, Conn.) and first-year Michael Spera (Mahwah, N.J.) combined to make nine saves over the final three quarters of action. Senior Dom Poletto (Engelwood, Colo.) made 18 stops in just over 52 minutes for Manhattanville before giving way to sophomore Ray Zimlin (Graniteville, N.Y.), who made three stops in 7:53 of work.

Russo, who won 15-of-19 face offs, and sophomore Alex Bunick (Millis, Mass.) tied for game-high honors with nine groundballs apiece and sophomore Christian Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) caused a game-high five turnovers. The Beavers held a 58-21 advantage in shots, a 51-28 lead in groundballs and forced 28 turnovers on the afternoon.

Babson returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to New London, Conn. to face Connecticut College in a 4:00pm start while Manhattanville opens up Freedom Conference play at Eastern on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00pm.
