CAMRIDGE, Mass. -- First-year Spencer Low scored the game-winning goal with 2:23 left in the game to lift the Babson College men's lacrosse team to a huge 5-4 victory over host MIT in a Pilgrim League matchup on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Beavers remain unbeaten in league play, improving to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Meanwhile, the Engineers fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the Pilgrim League.

Babson tallied the only two goals of the defense-dominated first half - both of which came in the opening quarter. Sophomore Kyle Barsalou scored the first off an assist from senior Mike Griffin at 11:24, and senior Alex Patinkin made it 2-0 when he scored a man-down goal at 9:16.

After Babson senior James Whalen stopped all five shots on net that he faced in the first half, MIT finally broke through with a goal less than three minutes into the third quarter. However, the Beavers extended their lead to 4-1 with a pair of goals later in the session, as Low twice converted a Patinkin feed - the first at 7:40 and the second at 4:14.

The Engineers came storming back in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals in a span of six minutes and 15 seconds to pull even at 4-4. However, Low scored his third goal of the contest - once again off an assist from Patrinkin - with 2:23 to go to put the Beavers back in front, 5-4.

After the two teams exchanged turnovers, MIT had one final chance when Babson was flagged for a delay of game with just over a minute left, but the Engineers committed another costly turnover as the Beavers held on for the 5-4 win.

Whalen finished with 13 saves in a little over 49 minutes of action, while junior Adam Daroff stopped the only shot on net that he faced while playing the final 11 minutes of the opening quarter.
