Patinkin, Men's Lacrosse Cruise Past New England College, 17-8, In Home Opener

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Senior captain Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) scored six goals and assisted on three others to help Babson College beat visiting New England College 17-8 in  non-conference men's lacrosse action at MacDowell Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory the Beavers moved to 2-0 on the season while New England College dropped to 0-1.

First-year Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.) netted three goals and sophomore John Joseph (Bolton, Mass.) scored twice as Babson had nine different players tally goals on the day. The Pilgrims got four goals and two assists from junior Brian Gillis (North Vancouver, British Columbia), while senior Matt Goyette (Lowell, Mass.) tallied once and added an assist.

After a quiet opening six minutes Patinkin got the Beavers rolling by scoring four goals in a span of 2:34 to take a 4-0. Junior Brett Rosen (Kinnelon, N.J.) and first-year Scott Doten (Western Springs, Ill.) tacked on scores just 44 seconds apart stretching the Babson lead to 6-0 with five minutes remaining in the first quarter.

After New England College scored the final two goals of the opening stanza the Beavers erupted for four straight tallies, getting two from Low, along with a goal each from sophomore Kyle Barsalou (Longmeadow, Mass.) and classmate Christian Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.), to open the second quarter, pushing their advantage to 10-2. Patinkin and first-year John Harrison (Pembroke, Mass.) scored before halftime and Joseph, followed by Patinkin with his final goal of the day to lead another four-goal charge giving Babson its biggest lead of the day at 14-3 just 1:16 into the third quarter.

Senior James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) and junior Adam Daroff (Pepper Pike, Ohio) combined to make seven saves, while first-year Adam Galluzzo (New London, N.H.) made 13 of the Pilgrims 16 saves in relief of sophomore Cody Kitson (Shelton, Conn.).

Junior Ryan Dawidjan (Worcester, Mass.) collected a team-high 10 ground balls, followed by sophomore Alex Bunick (Millis, Mass.) with nine, while Joseph won 16-of-26 face-offs. The Beavers held a 54-25 advantage in shots and a 51-36  margin on ground balls while forcing 31 New England College turnovers in the win.

Babson will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they play host to Eastern Connecticut State University in a 4:00pm start at MacDowell Field while New England College will play the second of five straight road games to start the season at Mount Ida College on Wednesday at 3:30pm.

GAME NOTES: Babson has now picked up seven straight wins over New England College dating back to 2001 and the Beavers are 12-6 against the Pilgrims dating back to 1990…The Beavers are now 2-0 for the second straight season…Babson moved to 26-1 since 2010 when scoring 10 or more goals.
