Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against Hamilton, 13-5

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md.—Hamilton College built a six-goal halftime lead and sophomore goalie Will Driscoll (Riverside, Conn.) made 18 saves en route to 13-5 victory over Babson College in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

With its third straight loss, Babson falls to 3-3 overall while Hamilton moves to 3-1 with the win.

Junior Alex Packer (Hudson, Ohio) scored twice to lead the Beavers, who got a goal and two assists from junior Ryan Dawidjian (Worcester, Mass.), and a score each from sophomore Phil Russo (Middleton, Mass.) and first-year Scott Doten (Western Springs, Ill.).

Sophomores John Zimmerman (Syracuse, N.Y.), and Will Robbins (Darien, Conn.), and senior Luke Walsh (Loudonville, N.Y.) each scored two goals apiece to lead the Continentals, who saw 10 different players notch goals on the day.

Dawidjian opened the scoring with his second goal of the season just 54 seconds into the game before Hamilton came back with three quick scores to grab a 3-1 lead at the 8:40 mark of the opening period. Doten's fourth goal of the season pulled Babson within 3-2 just 70 seconds later, but tallies by juniors Paul Armeido (Homer, N.Y.) and Bryan Hopper (Ridgewood, N.J.) gave the Continentals a 5-2 lead after the opening quarter.

Walsh scored his first goal of the game 2:41 into the second quarter to push the Hamilton advantage to 6-2 and following nearly 10 minutes without a goal, Zimmerman pushed their lead to five with his seventh goal of the season 2:29 before intermission. Walsh then pushed the halftime lead to 8-2 on his second score of the afternoon with just 0:01 remaining in the half.

Russo scored seven seconds into the second half to snap a 22:37 scoring drought and Packer notched his first goal of the day at the 14:06 mark to bring the Beavers back within 8-4. Unfortunately, they would be unable to draw any closer as Hamilton scored the final goal of the third quarter and tallied four times in the final stanza to win going away.

Senior goalie James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) made 12 stops for Babson, who outshot Hamilton, 44-43. Dawidjian collected a game-high eight groundballs and Russo won a game-high seven face-offs.

Babson will return home to face another NESCAC opponent in Colby College next Thursday, March 28 in a 4:00pm start at MacDowell Field, while Hamilton will travel to Bowdoin College on Saturday, March 23 for a 12pm face-off.
