CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sophomore Jamie Schmidt
scored a man-up goal with 2:55 left in the game to lift the Babson
College men's lacrosse team to a 10-9 come-from-behind victory at
MIT in a huge Pilgrim League contest on Saturday night. With the
win, the Beavers (7-5 overall, 2-1 PL) pulled even with the
Engineers (4-5 overall, 2-1 PL) in the conference standings and now
hold the tie-break advantage for the second seed in the league
tournament with two regular season games left to play.
Five unanswered goals by MIT in the third quarter gave the hosts
an 8-7 edge, but Babson outscored the Engineers, 3-1, in the final
frame to secure the 10-9 victory. The Beavers' Andrew
Packer registered a man-up goal at the nine-minute mark of
the fourth quarter to tie the score at eight, which was matched by
MIT's John Kucharczyk who followed with a man-down tally a minute
later. Packer then tallied the equalizer with 5:44 on the clock and
earned the assist on Schmidt's extra-man game-winner with 2:55 left
in regulation.
Junior Cam Caruso continued his outstanding
play of late with three goals, one assist, and four groundballs,
while freshman defender Ryan Dawidjan picked up a
team-high five groundballs in the victory. Sophomore Alex
Patinkin tallied two goals and two assists, Packer
contributed two goals and one assist, and sophomore Jay
Whalen made seven of his team's eight saves in net.
