SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore attack Robert Young had
three goals and two assists to lead Union men's lacrosse
(3-1) to a 15-8 win over Babson (2-4) at Frank Bailey Field.
Senior Union attack Brendan Kinnane had a goal, two assists, and
five ground balls, and senior midfielder Derek Meyer led both teams
with eight ground balls.
Babson got on the scoreboard first on an unassisted goal by
sophomore Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) at
10:02, but Union rattled off five straight goals in the first and
second quarters to take the lead for good.
Junior attack Ted McKenna got things going for the Dutchmen,
scoring his third goal of the season at 7:33. Just 23 seconds
later, sophomore midfielder Kyle Christine scored his first goal of
the season to give Union the lead while Ethan Meyer scored at 4:10
to give Union the 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Freshman midfielder Jonathan Andrews scored his first career
goal just over a minute into the second quarter and Union added
another score from Young, his first of the game, with 6:47
remaining in the half to put the Dutchmen up 5-1.
Babson senior Armand Wilson (Fairfield,
Conn.) scored with 2:45 to play in the half, the first of
four goals on the afternoon for the Babson senior. But Young struck
for his second goal of the day with 12 seconds left, taking a short
pass from Kinnane and beating Whalen from in tight for a 6-2 Union
lead at the half.
Babson would be unable to get any closer as Union went on to
outscore the Beavers 9-6 in the second half on their way to the
15-8 victory.
Junior goalie Sean Aaron made five saves in the first 51:42,
while freshman goalie Devyn Jefferies stopped three shots in the
final 8:18. Babson sophomore goaltender James Whalen
(Westwood, Mass.) made 17 saves, as Union outshout Babson
51-25 for the contest.
Babson was led by Wilson who tallied four goals and Patinkin who
chipped in with two goals and three assists. Defensively, the
Beavers were led by sophomore Cam Caruso (St. Charles,
Ill.) who picked up seven groundballs while winning six of
nine faceoffs and sophomore Mike Griffin (Duxbury,
Mass.) who finished with six groundballs.
The Beavers return to action on Tuesday when they host Mount Ida
at 4pm.
