Patinkin Spoils Senior Day at Clark as Men's Lax Prevails, 9-6

BOX SCORE

WORCESTER, Mass. – On a night when Clark took time to honor its nine seniors, it was a Babson College freshman who stole the show as the Beavers claimed a 9-6 win over the host Cougars on Wednesday evening on Granger Field.

With the victory, Babson (10-5 overall, 5-1 Pilgrim League) officially secured its 10th consecutive berth in the upcoming Pilgrim League Tournament. In addition, the Beavers reached the double-digit mark in wins for the first time since 2003.

The loss drops Clark to 6-7 overall and knocks them out of the Pilgrim League playoff picture with a 2-4 mark in league play.

Beaver first-year Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) scored all five of his goals in the second half, including three straight in the decisive third period when he single-handedly erased a 4-3 halftime deficit with a three-goal onslaught in less than nine minutes.

Down 6-4 heading into the fourth, Clark scored the game's next two goals to steal some momentum and tie the game, as Chris Adams (Bradford, N.H.) and Garrett McAdam (Portland, Maine) both found the back of the net.

Patinkin was at it again however, scoring back-to-back goals to put the game out of reach. Sophomore Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) added the Beavers' last marker with less than two minutes remaining.

In addition to Patinkin's five scores, first-year Jaime Schmidt (Shelburne, Vt.) registered two goals for Babson, while Adams netted a pair for the Cougars.

Both netminders – Clark's Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Babson senior Mike Saucier (Nashua, N.H.) – each had solid evenings between the pipes. DeVito turned away 18 shots while Saucier sent back 17.

The Beavers, who have now won five straight games, return to the field on Saturday with a home contest against Springfield, while the Cougars visit MIT for the season's final contest. Babson's game will also feature a special fundraising effort on behalf of long-time University of Hartford coach and current Bellarmine head coach Jack McGetrick.
