BABSON PARK, Mass. – First-year Alex Patinkin
(Providence, R.I.) scored four goals and assisted three
others to lead the host Babson College Beavers to an impressive
18-3 victory over the visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy
Bucaneers in a Pilgrim League men's lacrosse contest at
MacDowell Field on Saturday afternoon. With their sixth win in
their last eight games, the Beavers improved to 7-5 overall and 2-1
in the conference, while Mass Maritime fell to 2-9 overall and 0-3
in the Pilgrim League.
Patinkin led all players with seven points, while sophomore
Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) added two goals and
one assist for the hosts. Sophomore Paul Grip (Shrewsbury,
Mass.), junior Andrew Packer (Hudson,
Ohio), and first-year Ben Jette (Old Lyme,
Conn.) chipped in with two goals apiece for the Beavers,
while juniors Ryan Kucinski (Cohassett, Mass.) and
Brad Simpson (Neenah, Wisc.) each netted their
first goal of the season in the victory. Senior captain
Mike saucier (Nashua, N.H.) played the first half
in net and made six saves for Babson, and first-years Jay
Whalen (Westwood, Mass.) and Ryan Lee
(Wallingford, Conn.) played a quarter each, making five
and three saves, respectively.
Sophomore Will Doucette (Manchester, Mass.) tallied one goal,
one assist, and five groundballs to pace Mass Maritime, while
senior captain Connor Burke (Del Mar, Calif.) and junior Chris
Davis (Cohasset, Mass.) added one goal apiece. Senior captain James
Hitchings (Dover, Mass.) made 16 saves in three quarters of play in
net for the Buccaneers, while junior Ryan Delaney (Whitman, Mass.)
stopped two shots in the final 15 minutes.
Babson never trailed in the contest, scoring six straight goals,
including two by Patinkin, in the first 10 minutes to build an
early 6-0 lead. Burke scored with 3:09 left in the first to cut
Mass Maritime's deficit to five, but Patinkin scored the
first of four unanswered Beaver goals in the second to give the
hosts a commanding 10-1 advantage at the half. Senior captain
Max Artz (Gates Mills, Ohio), Patinkin, and
first-year Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, Vt.) would
all add to the lead with goals in the third as Babson surged ahead,
13-1, en route to the eventual 18-3 victory.
