BOX SCORE
SCRANTON, Pa. -- Senior captain Mike Saucier
made 14 saves in net to highlight a magnificent defensive
performance by Babson College on Saturday, as the Beavers recorded
a huge 9-5 road win at University of Scranton in a non-conference
men's lacrosse matchup.
Scranton outshot the Beavers, 48-27, in the contest, but Saucier
came up with his best effort of the young season. The veteran
goalie turned away three shots in each of the first two quarters
and four each in the third and fourth to finish with 14 stops on
the day. He was aided by another outstanding effort by the Babson
defensive unit, which killed nine of 10 man-up advantages for
Scranton and forced 33 turnovers. Junior Christian
Ebert continued his outstanding play, picking up a
team-high seven groundballs and causing seven turnovers.
Offensively, Babson received two goals and one assist from
junior Andrew Packer and first-year Alex
Patinkin, while sophomore Paul Grip
dished out two assists. No other Beaver had multiple points in the
contest, as the balanced Babson attack saw seven different players
score goals and two others contribute assists.
Scranton scored two straight goals to start the second quarter,
giving the hosts a 3-1 lead. However, Patinkin and Packer each
scored later in the second and senior Jon Standen
netted a goal early in the third to give the visitors a 4-3 lead.
Scranton knotted the contest at 4-4 on a goal by Thomas Alati
with 10:09 left in the third, but Babson rattled off five of the
game's final six scores to pull away with the 9-5 victory. Senior
captain Max Artz and Packer both scored in the
final three minutes of the third, and sophomore Brian
Magner, junior Armand Wilson, and
sophomore Cam Caruso contributed unanswered
strikes in the fourth.
Now 3-3 overall, the Beavers return home to play Plymouth State
at MacDowell Field on Thursday at 4 p.m.
