Skidmore Too Strong for Men's Lacrosse

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Skidmore College, 16-4, in their opening game of the 2010 season. Nine different Skidmore players scored in the win being led by senior Rob Lutin (Port Washington, N.Y.) and first-year J.P. Sullivan (Floral Park, N.Y.) who each tallied three goals and two assists for five points on the day. With the win, Skidmore starts their season off at 1-0 and Babson is now 0-1.

Skidmore started off strong scoring the six first goals of the game in the first quarter while capitalizing on two man-up opportunities. Babson junior Armand Wilson (Fairfield, Conn.) was able to put the Beavers on the board with 45 seconds remaining in the first quarter making the score 6-1 in favor of Skidmore.

In the second quarter, the Thoroughbreds put three more goals on the board and entered the break with the 9-1 lead.

Babson was unable to catch up in the second half as Skidmore went on to score six more goals while Babson was only able to put three more goals on the board.

Following Sullivan and Lutin was Skidmore first-year Mike Holden (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) who scored three of his game high four goals in the third quarter. Senior Alex Giaimo (Manhasset, N.Y.) led Skidmore defensively picking up seven groundballs. Lutin followed close behind with six.

Babson received goals from Wilson, sophomore Scott Schachter (Rumford R.I.), sophomore Paul Grip (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas Mallon (Manhasset, N.Y.). First-year James Schmidt (Shelbourne, Vt.) added two assists on the day. Junior Christian Ebert (Boxford, Mass.) picked up a game high eight groundballs.

Skidmore goalkeeper senior Flip Bongaerts (New Canaan, Conn.) played 48 minutes for Skidmore making seven saves and earning the win. Senior Mike Saucier (Nashua, N.H.) played the first three quarters for Babson and made 14 saves.

The Beavers return to action on Wednesday, March 3rd when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology for a 4pm game and Skidmore will host Hartwick College on Saturday, March 6th for a 1pm game.
