MANSFIELD, Conn. - Juniors Sarah Fredlund (New Preston,
CT) and Colleen Kelly (Milton, MA) each
had two goals and sophomore Courtney Weaving (New Preston,
CT) contributed two assists to power the Babson College
field hockey team past Eastern Connecticut State University, 6-0,
Tuesday evening in the first intercollegiate match played on the
Warriors' new turf field at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.
Coming off a 5-1 loss to nationally-ranked Skidmore College
Saturday, Babson (2-1) scored twice in less than six minutes to
move out to a 3-0 lead with 12 minutes left in the first half to
roll past Eastern (0-2) for the sixth time in this six-game series.
Weaving picked up her third and fourth assists in three matches
this year, setting up freshman Kelly Walsh (Gardner,
MA) for her second career goal to give the Beavers a 1-0
lead in the 14th minute, and feeding Fredlund ten minutes later to
make it 2-0. Fredlund added her team-leading fifth goal of
the year with three minutes left in the first half to give Babson a
4-0 advantage, and senior captain Jess Paladino (Turner,
ME) and Kelly each scored second half goals to complete
the 6-0 win.
Eastern sophomore Danielle Reichardt (Ocean Township,
NJ) stopped seven shots in the second half.
