Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team
scored the first 12 goals of the game as it defeated Babson
College, 22-6, in Pilgrim Lacrosse League action on Saturday
afternoon. Jake Beebe led the Pride attack with eight points on
four goals and four assists. Springfield now stands at a perfect
5-0 in league play and owns an overall mark of 7-5 this season. The
loss drops the Beavers to 4-9, 3-2 in Pilgrim League action.
The Pride poured in 10 goals in the first 15 minutes of play.
Springfield's first five goals all came from different players as
Pat Cavanaugh, Ryan Thibodeau, Beebe, Mike Delia, and Kyle Louer
all found the back of the cage to start Springfield's offensive
attack. The Pride scored five more goals in the frame, including a
man-down strike from Beebe after Tyler O'Keefe found the senior in
transition.
Springfield scored its first goal of the second quarter just six
seconds into the stanza as Beebe connected with Kyle Gable on the
crease. An unassisted strike from Joe Macchi one minute later made
it a 12-0 game as the Pride had complete control of the game. The
Beavers were able to get on the board as senior E.J.
Peterson (Framingham, Mass.) found the back of the cage
with 4:08 left in the first half. Springfield closed out the half
with four goals as it went into the half up 16-1.
The hosts scored the first three goals of the second half,
including a pair of man-up goals from Gable and Jake Jones. Jones'
goal gave Springfield its largest lead of the game, 19-1, with 3:46
left in the third.
In the final period, the Beavers got goals from senior
Matt Harrington (Hanover, Mass.), sophomore
Armand Wilson (Fairfield, Conn.) and first-year
Paul Grip (Shrewsbury, Mass.) as the Pride went on
to take the contest, 22-6.
Babson senior goalkeeper Max Owen (Hamilton,
N.J.) played 9:33 in goal as he made one save and
sophomore Mike Saucier (Nashua, N.H.) played
50 minutes making 17 saves. Harrington led the way with two goals
to go along with six ground balls.
Babson will return to action on Wednesday evening when they will
host Lasell at 7pm.
