NEW LONDON, Conn. --The Connecticut College field hockey team
(4-5) won their fourth game in five outings in inpressive fashion,
claiming a 5-0 victory against Babson College (8-4) in New London
Thursday afternoon. Abby Hine (Madison, Conn.) tallied a pair of
first half scores and Kelsey Fredericks (Nantucket, Mass.) chipped
in with a goal and an assist for the Camels.
The Camels came out firing in the early going of this contest.
Junior Ellen Cavanaugh (Cheshire, Conn.) scored on a feed from
Jenny Roe (Bethesda, Md.) 2:16 into regulation to put the hosts on
top 1-0. Later on in the half with 19:28 to play, Kelsey
Fredericks (Nantucket, Mass.) played a ball across the goal line to
Hine, who was waiting at the far post for a one-timer and a 2-0
lead.
With less than five minutes remaining in the half, Hine dribbled
through a pair of Babson defenders and ripped off a shot from her
backhand for her second goal of the afternoon. It was her seventh
score in four games and the Camels enjoyed a 3-0 lead at the
intermission.
Kelsey Fredericks (Nantucket, Mass.) extended the lead to four,
depositing a high rising penalty stroke into the cage with 25:38 to
play. Sophomore Bizzie Dow (Lake George, N.Y.) closed out the
scoring, burying a shot from near the top of the circle with 24:05
remaining. Sarah Penrose (Yarmouth, Mass.) assisted on the
marker.
Sophomore Robin Edwards (Concord, Mass.) had one save in the
victory for the Camels. Senior Hannah Ewing (Wynantskill, N.Y.)
logged the final 10 minutes of regulation in her first action of
the 2008 season. Rookie net-minder Jessica Pashos
(Winchester, Mass.) had four saves in the first half for
the Beavers. Junior Emily Cohen (West Grove,
Pa.) contributed four saves in relief duty.
