SCORE
WORCESTER, Mass.- Senior co-captain Nicole Cemelli (Towaco,
N.J.) scored two goals and Babson College posted a 4-1
come-from-behind victory over Clark University in a New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey game
played Saturday at Granger Field on the Clark campus. With the win,
Babson improved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in league play. Clark
dropped to 4-7 (0-3 NEWMAC).
Clark took a 1-0 lead on a penalty stroke after an infraction
was called on Babson goalie Jess Pashos (Winchester, Mass.) just
over six minutes into the game. Senior Madeleine Henefield (Pelham,
Mass.) pushed the stroke to the top left corner of the net to give
the Cougars the advantage.
However, Clark's lead would be short-lived. Babson's Cemelli
took a nice crossing pass from teammate Colleen Kelly (Milton,
Mass.) to tie it, 1-1, at the 11:28 mark. Then sophomore
Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) and junior Jess Paladino
(Turner, Maine) tallied single goals within a 4:48 span to give the
visitors a 3-1 margin.
Clark had a few solid chances to get back in the game with less
than five minutes remaining in the half, but back-to-back shots by
Henefield were turned away by Pashos and a breakaway chance by
Meghan Lennon (Charlton, Mass.) was stopped on a defensive save by
Anneliese Brosch (Essex, Mass.).
In the second half, Cemelli scored her team-leading 10th goal of
the season at 62:25 to give Babson the 4-1 victory.
Babson held a 27-11 advantage in shots in the game. Dawsey made
14 saves in goal for Clark, while Pashos stopped six shots for
Babson.
Babson will travel to Wheaton College Tuesday for a 3:30 pm
NEWMAC contest. Clark will also be back in action Tuesday
night against Smith College at 7:00 pm.
