WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior tri-captain Michele Farley (Skowhegen, ME) tallied a goal and dished out two assists to spark visiting Babson to a 4-0 victory over WPI in NEWMAC field hockey action on Saturday morning.
With the win, the Beavers have now come all the way back from an 0-4 start, winning five of their last six to improve to 5-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference. WPI is now 5-6 on the season and 0-2 in NEWMAC action.
First-year Colleen Kelly (Milton, MA) got the Beavers on the board just 10:18 into the game when she buried a feed from Farley into the back of the cage following a penalty corner.
Babson extended its advantage to 2-0 when senior Mikayla Shea (Dover, NH) knocked home a pass from Farley at 53:48. The Beavers added a pair of insurance goals in the final four minutes when Farley scored unassisted at 66:37 and first-year Erin Campbell (Arlington, MA) scored from sophomore Jess Paladino (Turner, ME) at 68:31.
Babson sophomore goalkeeper Emily Cohen (West Grove, PA) was credited with one save en route to picking up her second shutout of the season. WPI goalkeeper Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) notched four saves on the day.
Both squads will return to action with conference home games on Tuesday evening at 7pm. WPI will play host to MIT while Babson entertains Wheaton.
