Field Hockey Rolls On With 3-1 Win At Clark

Oct. 16, 2007

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. - Babson College scored two unanswered first half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action on Tuesday at Granger Field.

Clark falls to 5-9 (0-6 NEWMAC), while Babson improves to 10-6 overall and remains unbeaten in league play (6-0).

In the first frame, the Cougars held the Beavers scoreless until senior Michele Farley (Skowhegan, Me.) scored at the 13:39 mark on a perfectly executed penalty corner.  Junior Nicole Cemelli (Towaco, N.J.) sent a pass to Farley, on the right wing, who rocketed a shot to the far corner of the cage for a 1-0 Babson lead. Senior Brittany Stevens (Dudley, Mass.) bounced a shot past Clark keeper Katelyn McGrath (Wilmington, Mass.) to extend Babson's lead (2-0) with just over four minutes remaining in the half.

Clark had a chance to close the gap early in the second half, but sophomore Lauren DeMetro (Summit, N.J.) misfired a shot just 38 seconds in. The Cougars later capitalized in front after junior Madeleine Henefield (Pelham, Mass.) tipped a centering pass from sophomore Lauren Blake (Oakland, Me.) to trail by one (1-2).  It was her 10th goal of the season.

However, Cemelli and Farley teamed up again to give Babson an insurance goal with 3:28 remaining.  Cemelli fired a shot from the far left side of the cage for the final goal of the game.  Farley was credited with an assist on the play.

Making her first start in goal, McGrath made 14 saves for Clark. Sophomore Emily Cohen (West Grove, Pa.) stopped one shot for Babson.

Clark will host MIT on Saturday (1 p.m.). Babson will travel to Western New England College for a non-conference tilt on Thursday (4 p.m.).
