Amherst Snaps Field Hockey's Streak At Seven With 1-0 Win

Oct. 11, 2007

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass. - Sophomore Haley Douds (South Orange, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal just under four minutes into the second half and senior Kathleen Boucher (Washington, D.C.) made four saves in net to lead the Amherst College Lady Jeffs to a 1-0 victory over host Babson College in a non-conference field hockey game at MacDowell Field on Thursday night. With the win, Amherst improved to 6-4 overall, while the loss for Babson (8-6) snapped its seven-game win streak.

Babson had the better of the play in the first half, posting seven shots to Amherst' two. However, Boucher kept the Beavers off the board by making three of her four stops in the period, including back-to-back denials of sophomore Jess Paladino (Turner, Maine) and first-year Sarah Fredlund (New Preston, Conn.) during a 30-second stretch late in the half. Each team also recorded huge defensive saves in waning moments of the opening stanza, as Jeffs' junior Louise Stevenson (Dallas, Texas) blocked a bid by Paladino with two minutes remaining and Babson first-year Colleen Kelly (Milton, Mass.) made a diving stop on a would-be goal by senior Christa Porcaro (Pelham, N.Y.) with 10 seconds left.

Amherst finally got on the board early in the second half, as first-year Julie Santosuosso (Canton, Mass.) hit a ball from the left side that was redirected inside the left post by Douds. That would prove to be the only goal of the contest, as Boucher stopped Babson's only bid on net in the second period.
