WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Sophomore
Katie Yang (Orlando, Fla.) posted the low round of her career with a 2-over 73 to finish in a tie for sixth as the 21st-ranked Babson College women's golf team tied for fourth place in the Williams Invitational at Taconic Golf Club on Sunday.
After shooting 313 on Saturday, the Beavers were two strokes better in the final round with a score of 311 to finish in a tie with No. 14 Wellesley and Trinity at 56-over 624 for the weekend. No. 5 Middlebury (598), which entered the day with a seven-shot lead, held on for a one-stroke victory over No. 8 Williams (599), while No. 7 Amherst (611) came in third.
Yang, who finished tied for the third lowest round of the day, made two birdies and four bogeys to finish the tournament at 8-over 150 for the second year in a row. First-year
Anita Wang (Phoenix, Ariz.) made a late birdie to post a 6-over 77 that helped her into a tie for 25th position at 14-over 156 for the weekend.
Sophomore
Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) shot a 7-over 78 in Sunday's final round to move into a tie for 42nd place at 21-over with a 36-hole score of 163. Junior
Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) struggled to an 84 but grabbed a share of 35th position at 18-over 160, while sophomore
Francesca Choquette (New York, N.Y.) carded an 83 and concluded the weekend at 22-over in a tie for 44th place.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Rome Country Club in Rome, N.Y., for the Hamilton Invitational.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• In addition to being her career low, Yang's 73 is the best score by any Babson player in nine rounds at Taconic GC, where she now owns a T6 and a T11 over the last two seasons.
• The Beavers' 36-hole total of 624 is their lowest in five tournaments at Taconic and bested their previous low of 626 achieved last season by two strokes.
• Yang, who was one of just three in the 74-player field without a double bogey in the tournament, tied for first in the field in par-4 scoring at 2-over, while Bansal was one of four players to finish even-par or better on the par 3s.
• As a team, Babson finished third in par-3 scoring and were fifth among 15 teams making 92 pars.
