No. 5/9 Men's Lacrosse Travels to MIT for Regular Season Finale on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 34-12 all-time against MIT in a series that dates back to 1978.
• The Beavers have won 15 of the last 19 games between the teams, although 12 of the last 14 contests between the two sides have been decided by four goals or fewer.
• The Green and White's 15-8 win over MIT at Roberts Field in 2024 broke a four-game losing streak for the Beavers in Cambridge.

LAST GAME
• Junior Sam Sisk produced two goals and three assists and 12 different players scored at least one goal as second-seeded Babson defeated third-seeded MIT, 17-13, in a NEWMAC tournament semifinal on May 1, 2025 at MacDowell Field.
Jacob Tauss M'25 led the Beavers with three goals, juniors Andrew Berardi and Camden Matthews added two goals each, and classmate Seamus Rooney, senior Bennett Smith and Topher Bower M'25 chipped in with a goal and an assist apiece. Senior Will Reading won a career-high 23 faceoffs on 31 attempts and scooped up a career-high 12 ground balls, Gavin Bailey '25 caused two turnovers and collected a career-high eight ground balls, and Alex Fascilla '25 finished with 10 saves in goal.
• Senior Garrett Campagna tallied a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists for the Engineers, and Nick Stiles '25 contributed three goals in the setback. Senior Bryce Metalios scored two goals, classmate CJ Sanchez had a goal and two assists, and sophomore Riley Pierce added a goal and an assist. Andrew Palleiko M'25 picked up five ground balls and senior Collin Lung made seven saves in the MIT goal.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (13-2, 6-0 NEWMAC), ranked fifth in Division III by the USILA and ninth by USA Lacrosse Magazine, has won five of its last six games following an 18-5 conference rout at Clark last Friday in Worcester.
• Graduate student Joey Allen (2g, 5a) tallied five first-quarter points with two goals and three assists as Babson built a 7-0 lead and never looked back. Senior Braden Reilly scored a career-high four goals and Matthews had a goal and two assists as a dozen different players tallied at least one goal. Sophomore Beck Trafton won 8-of-17 face-offs, graduate student Hugh Curran and first-year Ryan Barsi combined for seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls, and sophomore Andrew Almquist made 13 saves on 17 shots in the first three quarters between the pipes.
• Allen (32-18-50) leads the team in goals and points and the next five players have between 20 and 23 goals, including Smith (21-24-45), Reilly (20-21-41), Matthews (23-10-33), Rooney (21-6-37) and graduate student Patrick McAleavey (20-3-23). Grad student Beau Burns has won 74.4 percent of his face-offs (166-223) and leads the team with 123 ground balls.
• Juniors Ellis McDonald (9 CTs, 12 GBs) and Ryan St. Onge (10 CTs, 19 GBs) and senior Sam Erjavac (5 CTs, 11 GBs) anchor a Beaver defense that leads the NEWMAC conceding 8.3 goals per game. Almquist (8.60 GAA,.616 sv. pct., 196 svs) leads the NEWMAC in GAA, save percentage and total saves.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• MIT (8-6, 5-1 NEWMAC) has won three of its last four games and is coming off a 20-11 conference victory over Wheaton last Saturday in Norton, Mass.
• Pierce fired in six goals and Campagna produced two goals and three assists for the Engineers, who outscored the Lyons 7-3 in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Senior Oscar Lindenthal and junior Hayden Calabretta scored three times each and senior Zach Bleil chipped in with a goal and three assists. First-years Kaden Fenno (15-18, 8 GBs) and Mason Prettyman (12-17) combined to win 27-of-35 face-offs and Lung made seven saves in goal in the victory.
• Campagna (24-41-65) and Pierce (44-17-61) are the team scoring leaders for the Engineers, and Metalios (27-4-31) is second on the team in goals. Fenno has won 60.5 percent of his face-offs (150-248) and tops the squad with 82 ground balls while Prettyman has captured 56.9 percent of his face-offs (82-144).
• Senior Tim Haarmann (13 caused turnovers, 31 ground balls) anchors the MIT defense. Lung has an 11.14 goals against average and a .530 save percentage in 14 games between the pipes.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
• The Beavers (6-0) enter Saturday's game with at least a share of the NEWMAC crown already in the bag and can earn their third title in the last four years with a win over MIT.
• The Engineers (5-1) can earn a share of the regular season title with a win over Babson, and Springfield (5-1) could create a three-way tie at the top of the standings with a win over Salve Regina and an MIT victory.
• Babson, Springfield and MIT have all earned byes into the NEWMAC tournament semifinals, and Salve Regina will host a first-round game on Tuesday.

BABSON VS. THE NEWMAC
• The Beavers are 29-2 against conference opponents dating back to the beginning of the 2023 season.
• The Green and White have outscored the NEWMAC opponents 106-33 in the first six games this season.

BEAVERS EARN WEEKLY RECOGNITION
• Weekly honors continue to roll in for the Beavers as Allen and Almquist Burns were named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively, on Monday. Almquist also earned a spot on the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Team of the Week on Tuesday.
• Allen produced four goals and six assists for 10 points over two games and Almquist posted a 12.17 goals against average and a .604 save percentage while stopping 32 shots and scooping up three ground balls.
• Allen received the NEWMAC honor for the third time this season and Almquist was recognized by the conference for the fifth occasion this spring and the NEILA for the third time.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Almquist registered his 13th win of the season against Clark, which ties him with Will Parducci (2023) and Alex Fascilla (2025) for the Babson single-season record for goalie wins in a season. Almquist's 196 saves is also tied with Mark DePietro (1993) for ninth on the single-season saves list.
• Smith needs one assist to become the third player in program history to record 100 assists. He is also in sixth place on the Babson career scoring list with 172 points (73g, 99a).
• Burns has produced 166 face-off wins this year, which ranks seventh on the Babson single-season face-off wins list, and his 123 ground balls are third-most in a season in program history.
• Rooney has moved up to a tie for 13th on the program's career goal scoring list with 87 goals, and is also 16th on the career points list with 132.

BEAVER BITES
• Smith has at least three points in 13 of 15 games this season, and he is the only Beaver who has points in all 15 games.
• Allen has at least three points in eight of his last nine games and at least one point in 13 of his 14 appearances.
• Rooney brings a 31-game point streak into the game dating back to the start of last season.
• Matthews has three points in three consecutive games and at least three points in 10 of his 14 outings. McAleavey has points in 14 of his 15 games this spring.
Tyee Ambrosh has at least one caused turnover in 10 of his last 14 games.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White are 13-0 this spring and have won 27 in a row since the start of last year when scoring at least 10 goals.
• The Beavers are 11-1 this season and 22-3 going back to last spring when holding a lead at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2024 campaign, Babson is 37-3 when winning at least 50 percent of its face-offs. 
• Going back to 2023, the Beavers are 17-5 in the month of April. 

UP NEXT
• Babson has earned a first-round bye in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host a semifinal game on Thursday at 7 p.m. at MacDowell Field.
