DARTMOUTH, Mass.—First-year
Bobby Christensen (Scotch Plains, N.J.) finished with three hits and graduate student
Ryan Grace (Concord, Mass.) and junior
Jack Moses (Belle Mead, N.J.) both had two hits and two RBI to help visiting Babson College defeat UMass Dartmouth, 15-11, in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon.
Babson has won four consecutive games to improve to 15-11 on the year. UMass Dartmouth has dropped three of its last four outings to drop to 14-17 overall.
Christensen doubled, drove in a run and had one stolen base, Grace hit a two-run homer, walked twice and scored a pair of runs, and junior
Ian Laforest (Waltham, Mass.) returned to the lineup by going 2-for-3 with a double, and RBI and three runs scored for the Beavers, who had 12 hits and walked nine times. Senior
Connor Doan (Pasadena, Texas) gave up four runs while striking out two over 6.1 innings to improve to 2-0 on the season with the win.
First-year Sam Bradford (Yarmouth, Maine) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and graduate student Spencer Aubin (Dover, N.H.) and junior Cooper Wixon (Plano, Texas) both homered and combined to drive in five runs for the Corsairs, who finished with 16 hits. Senior Brett Baker (Chelmsford, Mass.) also went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBI in the loss.
The Green and White opened the scoring with an RBI ground out by sophomore
Dylan Drazka (Rye Brook, N.Y.) in the third and took advantage of two errors, two hit batsmen and a walk to score four times with two outs in the fourth to make it 5-0. Bradford cut the UMass Dartmouth deficit to 5-1 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, but Moses came through with a two-run single and Christen followed with a double to right center to plate Grace, extending the Beavers' lead to 8-1 in the sixth.
Grace followed two-out RBI knocks by junior
Ryan Liss (Hollywood, Fla.) and sophomore
Ben Valente (Newton, Mass.) with a two-run blast, his sixth of the season, to stretch the margin to 12-2 in the top of the seventh. Wixon answered with a two-run shot of his own in the bottom half of the frame, but Babson scored three more times without the benefit of a hit in the top of the ninth for a 15-4 advantage.
Baker's two-run triple and Aubin's three-run homer cut the Corsairs' deficit to 15-10 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, and the hosts tacked on another run thanks to an error by the Beavers before graduate student
Michael Camardi (Syosset, N.Y.) got a fly ball to center for the game's final out.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday as Babson welcomes Emerson to Govoni Field for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m., while UMass Dartmouth travels to Plymouth State for a twin bill starting at 1 p.m.
