SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.—First-year Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) shot a 3-over 75 as the 22nd-ranked Babson College women's golf sits in eighth place following round one of the Jack Leaman Invitational at The Orchards Golf Club on Saturday. 

The Beavers posted a first round score of 33-over 321 that has the two shots ahead of Wesleyan and just four shots behind No. 11 Hamilton and No. 13 Middlebury, which are tied for fifth at 317. No. 2 NYU (302) sits in first place at 14-over, which is five shots better than both fourth-ranked Williams and sixth-ranked Amherst. 

Bansal carded three birdies and played her final eight holes in 2-under par to finish the opening round in a tie for seventh place just five shots off the lead. First-year Katie Yang (Orlando, Fla.) is tied for 22nd place at 8-over after shooting an 80 on Saturday, while sophomore Hannah McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario), who was the only Babson player without a double-bogey in round one, is tied for 32nd after carding a 9-over 81. 

Sophomore Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) ended the day with pars on four of her final five holes on the way to carding a 13-over 85. 

Final round play at the Jack Leaman Invitational begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. 

TOURNAMENT NOTES
•    Babson's first round score of 321 is its best in four rounds at The Orchards GC over the last three seasons. It's previous low of 329 came in the final round of the 2024 tournament. 
•    Bansal finished round one tied for first among the 66-player field in par 3 scoring at 1-under and tied for fifth in par 4 scoring at 2-over.
•    McCarthy was one of just 13 players to avoid making a double-bogey in round one.
