No. 6/6 Men's Lacrosse Hosts No. 2/2 Bowdoin in Battle of Unbeatens on Tuesday Evening at MacDowell Field

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 3-23 all-time against Bowdoin in a series that dates back to 1978.
• The Beavers snapped an 18-game losing streak to the Polar Bears in 2024 in Babson Park going back to 1981, although the teams did not play from 1984-87 and 1999-2014.
• The Green and White are 1-6 against Bowdoin at MacDowell Field going back to 1995.
• Both teams enter Tuesday's contest ranked nationally for the fourth consecutive season.

LAST GAME
Alex Fascilla '25 made a season-high 19 saves but No. 20 USILA/No. 20 USA Lacrosse Babson suffered a 12-6 loss at No. 9 USILA/No. 9 USA Lacrosse Bowdoin on March 26, 2025 at Pickard Field in Brunswick, Maine.
• Junior Andrew Berardi scored twice and Justin Greene M'25, senior Bennett Smith and juniors Bruno Batty and Seamus Rooney each added a goal for the Beavers. Senior Will Reading and sophomore Beck Trafton combined to win 9-of-21 face-offs, while Brendan Maher finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the loss. 
• Patrick Fitzgerald '25 led all players with three goals and three assists for six points, junior Huck Trafton scored three times and Jason Lach '25 added two goals to pace the Polar Bears. Beau Burns '25 won 8-of-16 face-offs, sophomore Brooks Kitchel finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Robert Hobbs '25 made 15 saves in the victory. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (8-0, 2-0 NEWMAC) remained unbeaten with a dominating 21-6 victory over Springfield in a conference match-up on Saturday at MacDowell Field.
• Graduate student Joey Allen and Rooney scored four goals apiece, Smith tallied a goal and four assists, and grad student Beau Burns won a whopping 20-of-21 face-offs and picked up 15 ground balls for the Beavers. Junior Rowan Mondello added two goals and an assist, Berardi and grad student Patrick McAleavey scored twice each, and sophomore Grayson Ambrosh and first-year Reid Vandenberg chipped in with a goal and assist. Sophomore Andrew Almquist made 13 saves in goal in the victory.
• The Beavers have maintained a balanced offense with Smith (14-13-27), Allen (16-9-25), senior Braden Reilly (9-14-23) and junior Camden Matthews 15-5-20) all with at least 20 points through eight games, and Rooney (13-4-17) and McAleavey (12-1-13) with double-digit goals. Burns has a 76.3 success rate (106-139) on face-offs and leads the team with 77 ground balls.
• Grad student Mason Dorr and senior Tyee Ambrosh each have a team-high nine caused turnovers, and Almquist has posted an 9.02 goals against average and a .585 save percentage with 100 saves in eight starts between the pipes this season.

SCOUTING THE POLAR BEARS
• Bowdoin (6-0, 4-0 NESCAC) extended its undefeated season with a 17-12 road victory over No. 13 Wesleyan on Saturday in Middletown, Conn.
• Junior Casey Ryan led the Polar Bears with three goals and three assists, while junior Chris Berry (2g, 3a) and seniors Sam Raye-Steiner (2g, 2a) and Alex Byrne (2g) were among the 12 different players who scored. Junior Cam Wietfeldt won 15-of-23 face-offs and collected six ground balls, classmate Nico Schermer caused three turnovers and scooped up seven GBs, and sophomore Alec Delgado made 12 saves in goal and grabbed seven ground balls in the win.
• Ryan (27-16-43) and Berry (26-13-39) are both in the top eight in Division III in goals and points per game, and Raye-Steiner (12-11-23) is also an offensive threat. Wietfeldt (56-81, .691) and sophomore Alex Choi (43-69, .623) give Bowdoin a formidable face-off duo, Wietfeldt and Byrne share the team lead with 21 ground balls, and Delgado (9.07 GAA, .555 sv. pct, 66 svs) in strong between the pipes for the Polar Bears.
• Bowdoin finished 16-4 and won three NCAA Tournament games last season before falling to Tufts in the semifinals.

RANKED OPPONENTS
• Sunday's game is the fourth of five games on the Babson schedule this season against teams with national rankings.
• The Beavers are 3-0 so far with a victory over No. 4/5 RIT in February and wins over No. 17/14 Amherst and No. 18/16 Middlebury earlier this month. They will also match up against No. 1/1 Tufts on April 14.
• Babson is 5-3 against nationally-ranked foes going back to last spring with all three losses to top-10 teams, and 8-7 against ranked teams since 2024.

BABSON VS. THE NESCAC
• Tuesday marks the third of four contests this season against schools from the NESCAC.
• The Beavers are 2-0 against teams from Division III's top conference, with wins over No. 17/14 Amherst (15-11) and No. 18/16 Middlebury (14-9).
• The Green and White are 3-4 against NESCAC opponents going back to last year and are 5-6 against the conference dating back to 2024.
• The NESCAC has the top two and six of the top 20 teams in this week's USILA poll.

HELLO OL' FRIENDS
• Babson face-off specialist Beau Burns will make his first appearance against his former teammates after playing for the Polar Bears the past four seasons.
• Burns won 55.8 percent of his face-offs (174-312) last season and 55.0 percent (310-564) in his four-year career.

BURNS EARNS CONFERENCE AND REGIONAL RECOGNITION
• After a historic performance against Springfield, Burns earned his third consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Face-Off Specialist of the Week honor on Monday.
• Burns won 20-of-21 face-offs and picked up 15 ground balls, the best showing for a Babson player since Conor Maloney went 20-for-20 on face-offs with 10 GBs in a win over New England College on March 11, 2015.
• Burns was also named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Team of the Week on March 11 and the US Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Team of the Week on March 18.

MACDOWELL MENACES
• Babson is 4-0 at MacDowell Field this season and have won 12 in a row at home dating back to last season.
• The Green and White are 14-1 at home since the beginning of last season and have won 23 of their last 24 home games going back to the start of the 2024 campaign.
• The Beavers have outscored their opponents at home this season, 73-30.

BEAVER BITES
• Rooney extended his point streak to 27 games going back to last season after matching his career high with four goals against Springfield.
• Smith has at least three points in seven on eight games this season and at least one point in all eight. He has climbed to 10th on Babson's career scoring list with 154 points and fourth on the career assist list with 88 helpers, just two shy of the 90 by Topher Bower '25.
• Burns has climbed to eighth in Division III with a 76.3 face-off winning percentage and 14th with 9.71 ground balls per game.
Tyee Ambrosh has at least one caused turnover in six of his last seven games.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White have won 22 in a row since the start of last year when scoring at least 10 goals.
• The Beavers are 6-0 this season and 17-2 going back to last spring when holding a lead at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2024 campaign, Babson is 34-3 when winning at least 50 percent of its face-offs. 
• Going back to 2023, the Beavers are 21-5 in the month of March.
