SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 2-3 all-time against Amherst in a series that dates back to 1983.
• Wednesday's game will be the first between the two schools since they played four years in a row from 1991-94.
• The Beavers defeated Amherst in 1991 (11-7) and 1994 (18-4) while the Mammoths earned wins in 1983 (17-6), 1992 (9-4) and 1993 (12-11).

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (4-0, 0-0 NEWMAC), ranked No. 8 by the USILA and No. 6 by USA Lacrosse Magazine, extended its season-opening winning streak to four with a 19-8 victory over Western New England last Saturday at MacDowell Field.
• Senior Braden Reilly finished with a pair of goals and three assists to lead seven players who scored two goals and 17 players who had at least a goal or an assist. Grad student Joey Allen, senior Bennett Smith and juniors Anthony Stillwell and Camden Matthews tallied two goals and one assist each, and junior Seamus Rooney and grad student Patrick McAleavey chipped in with two goals apiece. Grad student Beau Burns won 16-of-19 face-offs and picked up 10 ground balls and sophomore Andrew Almquist made eight saves in goal in the win.
• The Beavers boast a balanced offense with Allen (10-5-15), Reilly (6-8-14), Smith (9-3-12) and Matthews (7-3-10) all in double digits in points through four games. Burns has a 66.7 success rate (34-51) on face-offs and leads the team in ground balls, while seniors Will Reading and Smith have scooped up 10 ground balls each.
• Senior Tyee Ambrosh has a team-high four caused turnovers, and Almquist has posted an 9.25 goals against average and a .580 save percentage with 51 saves in four starts between the pipes this season.

SCOUTING THE MAMMOTHS
• Amherst (1-1, 1-1 NESCAC), ranked No. 17 by the USILA and No. 14 by USA Lacrosse Magazine, took its first loss of the season last Saturday with a 15-8 road setback at No. 1 Tufts in Medford.
• First-year attack Patrick Arnold scored three goals and senior Bob Gross and junior Brayden Stroh tallied two goals each in the setback. First-year Dylan Kelleher won 8-of-14 face-offs with three ground balls and sophomore Carter Cave won 6-of-13 with four GBs for the Mammoths, who had a brief 3-2 lead in the opening quarter before falling behind 10-3 at halftime. Senior Thompson Lau had two caused turnovers and senior Brooks Catlin made 12 saves in goal.
• Sophomore Willie Doyle (3-2-5) has the early team scoring lead while Arnold (3-0-3), Gross (3-0-3), Stroh (2-0-2) and senior Bennett Chow (2-0-2) are offensive threats. Kelleher (15-26, .577) and Cave (11-19, .579) are strong face-off men, junior Sam Sneider (3) and Lau (2) have combined for five caused turnovers, and Catlin owns a 10.00 goals against average and a .512 save percentage with 21 saves.
• The Mammoths finished 11-6 last year after going 7-3 against NESCAC opponents and advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

BURNS EARNS CONFERENCE RECOGNITION
• After his impressive performance against WNEU, Burns was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Face-Off Specialist of the Week on Monday.
• Burns won 16-of-19 face-offs and matched his career high by picking up 10 ground balls. He did much of his work in the first half winning 11-of-12 face-offs, including each of his last eight, while collecting nine ground balls as the Beavers built an 11-3 lead.

RANKED OPPONENTS
• Wednesday's game is the second of five games on the Babson schedule this season against teams with national rankings.
• The Beavers are 1-0 so far with a victory over No. 4/5 RIT last month. They will also match up against No. 18/16 Middlebury on Sunday, No. 3/3 Bowdoin on March 24, and No. 1/1 Tufts on April 14.
• Babson is 3-3 against nationally-ranked foes going back to last spring with all three losses to top-10 teams, and also went 3-4 against ranked teams in 2024, including 2-2 against top-10 opponents.

MEETING THEIR GOALS
• The Beavers have outscored their opponents 66-37 in the first four games with 10 multi-goal scorers and at least one goal from 21 different players.
• Senior Hong (Tre) Ahn and first-years Reid Vandenberg and Nick Marsh all scored their first career goals against Western New England to join sophomore Jake Murray and first-year Alex Schobel as first-time goal scorers.
• Smith has at least one goal in all four games, Allen, Matthews and McAleavey have at least two goals in three outings, and Reilly and Stillwell have scored at least once in three contests.

BEAVER BITES
• Reilly (6-8-14) needs just one point to match his point total from last season (8-7-15).
Tyee Ambrosh has at least one caused turnover in his last three games and six of his last seven outings going back to last season.
• Rooney extended his point streak to 23 games going back to last season with a pair of goals against Western New England.
• Smith has 15 goals and six assists in his last eight games going back to last season, with six multi-point outings.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White have won 18 in a row since the start of last year when scoring at least 10 goals.
• The Beavers are 3-0 this season and 14-2 going back to last spring when holding a lead at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2024 campaign, Babson is 28-3 when winning at least 50 percent of its face-offs. 
• Babson is 14-1 since last season when finishing with eight or more caused turnovers. 
• Going back to 2023, the Beavers are 17-5 in the month of March. 

UP NEXT
• Babson will open the NEWMAC portion of the schedule on Saturday at Wheaton at 4 p.m. before hosting No. 18/16 Middlebury on Sunday at 1 p.m. at MacDowell Field.
