SPRINGFIELD, Mass.— Sophomores
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) and
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) won two individual races each as Babson College captured 10 of the 16 events to defeat Springdield College, 169-120, in the final women's swimming and diving dual meet of the season Saturday afternoon inside the Linkletter Natatorium.
With the victory, the Beavers wrap up the dual meets with a 7-4-1 record while Springfield winds up its campaign at 1-11 in dual meets. Babson reached seven victories for just the ninth time in the 38-year history of the program.
Gilbert finished first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:02.04 and the 200 IM in a time of 2:20.11, and finished second in the 100 free in 57.25 seconds. Netishen captured the 50 free in 24.53 seconds and the 200 backstroke in 2:16.53. Gilbert also swam the breaststroke leg of Babson's winning 400 medley relay and Netishen swam the leadoff leg of both the winning 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Sophomore
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) had another strong meet for the Beavers, winning the 100 butterfly in 1:01.30, placing second in the 200 back in 2:20.29 and taking third in the 200 free in 2:04.45 after swimming the butterfly leg on the winning 400 medley relay team.
Junior
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) had an impressive performance for the Green and White, winning the 100 free in 54.53 seconds, finishing runner-up in the 50 free in 25.06, and swimming the anchor leg of both winning relay teams.
Ssophomore
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) was a strong contributor for Babson, capturing first place in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:39.68, finishing second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.52, swimming the third leg on the winning free relay team, and leading off the second-player medley relay squad. Leila Evans (Sandwich, Mass.) was the winner of the 1000 free in 11:41.18, finished third in the 500 free in 5:48.29, and swam a leg on Babson's second-place free relay team
Senior
Sophia Sznewajs (Edina, Minn.) turned in a strong showing in her final dual meet, placing second in the 100 backstroke (1:05.35) and 100 butterfly (1:04.35) and competing on a pair of runner-up relay teams. First-year
Middy Hinckley (Trent Woods, N.C.) took second place in a pair of events, the 200 free (2:04.04) and 500 free (5:36.88), and swam the leadoff leg of Babson's second-place free relay team.
First-year
Finn Bergquist (Marblehead, Mass.) brought home second place points in the 200 fly in 2:26.19 and third place in both the 100 fly (1:06.75) and 200 IM (2:30.92) after swimming the breaststroke leg of Babson's second-place 400 medley relay team.

Lakshmi Prasanth (Apex, N.C.) in the 100 backstroke (1:07.16), classmate
Becky Hwang (Needham, Mass.) in the 100 free (59.65), and fellow first-year
AJ Hallbert (Enterprise, Ala.) in the 200 backstroke (2:27.40). Hallbert was also on the winning 400 free relay team and the runner-up 400 medley relay unit, and Hwang was on the second-place free relay squad.
Babson returns to action on Thursday, February 19, when it travels to Cambridge, Mass., for the opening session of the four-day NEWMAC Championships at MIT.
