CAMBRIDGE, Mass.— The Babson College women's swimming & diving team established program records in two events to highlight day three of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday inside MIT's Zesiger Center Pool.
The Beavers totaled 121 points on Saturday and are currently fourth out of 10 teams with 353 points through 14 events, just one point ahead of fifth-place Wheaton and 12 points ahead of sixth-place WPI. MIT holds a big lead with 1079 points, while Coast Guard is second with 528 and Wellesley is third with 464.
Sophomore
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) turned in an outstanding performance in the 100-yard butterfly. She touched the wall in the morning preliminaries in eighth place in a time of 57.47 seconds, lowering her own program record by 0.04 seconds, and came back in the A final with another record-breaking time of 57.35 to finish seventh.

Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.),
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.), and Turhan and junior
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) touched the wall with a time of 1:49.06 in the prelims to finish fifth. They came back in the finals with another fifth-place finish and broke the program record with a clocking of 1:47.58, breaking the mark of 1:48.31 set in 2023.
Sophomore
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) qualified for the A final in the 400 IM in the morning with a time of 4:43.22, and finished in sixth place with a time of 4:41.33 in the finals.
Netishen also qualified for the A final in the 100 backstroke, finishing 10th in the prelims in a time of 59.62 seconds. She finished 10th in the finals with a time of 59.00. First-years
Becky Hwang (Needham, Mass.) and
AJ Hallbert (Enterprise, Ala.) qualified for the B final for the Beavers; Hwang was 13th in the prelims in a time of 1:00.43 and fifth in the finals in 1:00.50, and Hallbert was 19th in the prelims in 1:01.88 and ninth in the finals in 1:02.67.
Babson was represented by three swimmers in the B final of the 200 freestyle. Gilbert was 15th in the prelims in 1:59.29 and bettered that time with a 1:57.70 in the finals, which ranks her third on the all-time performers list; Sophomore
Hailey Cronan (New Market, Md.) finished 13th in the prelims with a time of 1:59.21 and lowered her time to 1:57.88 in the finals, which ranks her fourth on Babson's all-time performer list; and first-year
Middy Hinckley (Trent Woods, N.C.) was 19th in the prelims with a time of 2:00.32 and improved to1:59.90 in the finals, moving her up to eighth on the all-time performers list.
Due to an incoming storm, Sunday's preliminaries have been canceled and all remaining events with be timed finals Sunday morning beginning at 10 a.m.
