Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Carlo, Perreault Lead Women's Basketball Past Wellesley, 70-46

Seniors Combine for 29 Points as Beavers Run Winning Streak to Five

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) scored a career-high 16 points and classmate Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to help Babson College defeat visiting Wellesley College, 70-46, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

With its fifth straight win, Babson improves to 14-7 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Wellesley has dropped back-to-back contests to fall to 9-11 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC.

Carlo and Perreault combined for six of the Beavers' eight three-pointers, sophomore Julia St. Laurent (Greenland, N.H.) scored 11 points and classmate Alessa Mendoza (Yonkers, N.Y.) added 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting in the win. Fellow sophomore Mary Kate Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) chipped in eight points and six boards, while Carlo tied for game-high honors with four assists.

Sophomore Ava Shane (Plano, Texas) went 8-of-11 at the free throw line on the way to scoring 14 points to pace the Blue. Classmate Stacy Chen (Minneapolis, Minn.) and first-year Hailey Moy (San Francisco, Calif.) both added 10 points in the defeat.

Up just three after a jumper by Moy with 2:14 to go in the second quarter, the Green and White got three-pointers from both Carlo and Perreault over the final 45 seconds of the stanza that sparked a 16-0 to create separation. St. Laurent and graduate student Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) opened the third with back-to-back hoops to make it 33-20 and Carlo followed up another triple by Perreault with three free throws that pushed the margin to 39-20 with 5:28 left in the period.

Barrow made Wellesley's first field goal in over 10 minutes with 2:02 to go in the frame but Mendoza answered with two free throws and a mid-range jumper to give the Beavers' a 52-29 lead going to the fourth. Sophomore Rylie Rosenberg (New Rochelle, N.Y.) stretched the advantage to 57-32 with a triple from left wing two-and-a-half minutes into the fourth and a layup by Mary Kate Flynn gave the hosts their largest cushion of the afternoon at 69-41 with 3:30 to play in the contest.

The Green and White never trailed in the game and led by as many as seven twice in the first quarter before the Blue got within three on a steal and layup by Chen. Mary Kate Flynn made it 20-12 with a layup at the 6:45 mark but despite making just one field goal over the first seven minutes of the quarter, Wellesley scored on back-to-back trips to get within 23-20 before Babson started to pull away.

The Beavers shot 57.7 percent in the second half and 45.5 percent for the game while finishing with a 41-34 edge on the glass. The Blue shot just 24.6 percent overall and was 1-of-11 from three-point land (9.1 percent), but did score 19 points off turnovers.

Both teams are back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as Babson hosts Salve Regina while Wellesley meets Clark.
