Flynn, Women's Basketball Use Big Third Quarter to Rally Past Salve Regina, 86-77

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) scored 23 of her career-high 34 points in the second half to help Babson College rally to defeat Salve Regina University, 86-77, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Wednesday night inside Staake Gymnasium. 

Babson, which extended its winning streak to six, is now 15-7 overall and 7-1 in conference play. Salve Regina lost for the eighth time in its last eight outings to drop to 7-15 overall and 1-7 in the NEWMAC. 

Flynn was 11-of-23 shooting made a career-high seven three-pointers to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and two steals, while senior Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) recorded her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 10 boards to lead the Beavers. First-year Alyssa Hopps (Quincy, Mass.) also scored 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and senior Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) and sophomore Rylie Rosenberg (New Rochelle, N.Y.) tied for game-high honors five assists. 

Senior Sofia Neary (Wayne, N.J.) finished with 25 points on 8-of-12 shooting, 10 rebounds, three blocks and two steals to lead the Seahawks. First-year Frankie Spadorcia (Braintree, Mass.) came off the bench to score 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while senior Marissa Forino (Watertown, Conn.) added 11 points and three assists in the loss. 

Trailing 39-31 at the half, the Green and White shot 68.4 percent from the floor (13-of-19) and erupted for 34 third-quarter points to seize command of the game. Flynn accounted for 10 of the first 15 points as the Beavers scored on six of their first seven possessions to take a 46-45 lead less than four minutes into the stanza. 

Flynn and Hopps combined for 11 consecutive Babson points in the span of just over two minutes, and sophomore Brooke Canty (Dover, Mass.) and first-year Devon Burke (Newtonville, Mass.) both scored in transition over the final 14 seconds of the period to extend the margin to 65-53 going into the fourth. Flynn and Perreault started the final frame by hitting back-to-back three-pointers, while Rosenberg followed up a layup with another triple to give the Beavers their largest lead of the night at 76-55 with 6:48 remaining. 

The Seahawks shot 70 percent from the floor and went 10-of-13 at the charity stripe in the fourth to get as close as 80-73 with 2:31 to play before Flynn canned her final three-pointer of the contest with just under two minutes left to seal the win.

Salve Regina, which led for much of the first half, jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead and closed the second quarter with an 8-0 run that included a triple by junior Savannah Emery (Greenland, N.H.) to take a 39-31 advantage, its largest of the game, into the locker room at halftime. 

The Green and White shot 60 percent in the second half and 42.1 percent for the game while knocking down 10 three-points and scoring 22 points off turnovers. The Seahawks shot a season-best 54.2 percent from the floor and outscored the Beavers 23-12 at the free throw line. 

Both teams are back in action on Saturday as Babson travels to Clark at 3 p.m. while Salve Regina visits Wheaton for a 1 p.m. tip-off. 

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are 15-5 all-time against Salve Regina and have won four straight games in the series since 2018.
•    Babson has won 11 consecutive NEWMAC regular season games in the month of February going back to 2024. 
•    Flynn's 34 points are the most by a Babson player since November 16, 2019, when Emily Bonifacic '20 finished with 38 in a 76-66 win over Union. 
•    The Green and White, which scored 55 of its season-high 86 points in the second half, also set new season highs in made field goals (32), field goal attempts (76) and assists (23).
