With its fourth straight victory, Babson improved to 13-7 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Emerson dropped its third game in a row and dipped to 12-8 overall and 3-3 in the NEWMAC.
St. Laurent made 7-of-14 shots from the field and added seven rebounds and three assists while Flynn had a team-high four assists to her credit. Sophomore
Rylie Rosenberg (New Rochelle, N.Y.) tallied 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go along with four rebounds and senior
Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) contributed 10 points, three rebounds and a team-high three steals in the victory.
Senior Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, Mass.) and junior Claire English (Winchester, Mass.) shared team-high honors for Emerson with 16 points and three assists apiece. English was 6-of-10 shooting and grabbed a team-high seven boards while Frongillo converted just 7-of-19 shots from the field. Sophomore Jessie Silk (Newton, Mass.) chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds and sophomore Lindsay Gould (Westlake Village, Calif.) knocked down a pair of three-pointers and finished with six points.
There were five lead changes in a close first quarter, with neither team leading by more than three points until Carlo and Flynn hit back-to-back baskets in the final minute to give the Beavers a 21-17 lead after one.
After English converted a layup for the hosts to start the second quarter, Babson ran off nine straight points to open up an 11-point margin. Carlo drained a three-pointer to start the rally and St. Laurent, sophomore
Alessa Mendoza (Yonkers, N.Y.) and first-year
Alyssa Hopps (Quincy, Mass.) followed to put the visitors up 30-19 with seven minutes to go in the half. The Lions answered with 11 consecutive points of their own over the next four minutes, book-ended by three-balls from juniors Elisa Arnold (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Kendra Dodd (Tampa, Fla.) to knot the score at 30-all with three minutes to go in the half.
Hopps and Flynn stopped the bleeding with layups for Babson, and Flynn followed with a triple as the margin grew back to seven points before junior Kaylin O'Meara's (Littleton, Mass.) layup left the Beavers with a 37-32 advantage at the intermission.
The teams traded several baskets in the third quarter before Rosenberg, Carlo and Mondoza hit consecutive shots for Babson to push the lead up to 11 points, 55-44, with 4:36 to go in the quarter. The Beavers couldn't shake the hosts as the Lions got back to within six points after a Frongillo layup in the final minute of the frame before St. Laurent hit a pair of free throws and Mendoza converted a tip-in at the buzzer for a 61-51 Babson lead after three.
Emerson got as close as seven points (65-58) after a Frongillo three-pointer with 4:43 remaining, but Mendoza and St. Laurent hit back-to-back shots to push the margin back to double digits with 3:39 on the clock and the Lions got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Babson shot 47.1 percent from the field, including 58.8 percent in the first and third quarters, and produced a 45-30 advantage on the glass while holding Emerson to a 38.6 shooting percentage.
Both teams will be back in action with NEWMAC games on Saturday at 3 p.m. as Babson hosts crosstown rival Wellesley and Emerson travels to Coast Guard.
