CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Babson College men's swimming & diving team got strong results from a number of individuals and finished the evening session with the 400 medley relay team earning a spot on the podium to highlight day two of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Friday night inside MIT's Zesiger Pool.
The Beavers scored 188 points on Friday and currently sit in fourth place through seven events with 279 points. Babson is just 19.5 points behind third-place WPI, while MIT (524.5 points) and Coast Guard (364) hold the top two spots in the team standings.
The quartet of junior
Anthony Taslakov (Dover, Mass.), sophomore
Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ill.) and first-years
Matthias McFarlane (Trumbull, Conn.) and
Evan Hong (Longmeadow, Mass.) posted a time of 3:22.55 to take third place in the A final 400 medley relay. Babson also took third place in the B final of the event as sophomores
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.),
Chengetai Zamchiya (Cheverly, Md.),
Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.) and
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) touched the wall with a time of 3:24.55.
The Beavers put three swimmers into the finals of the 500 free where sophomore
William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) finished fourth overall with a season-best time of 4:37.78. Taslakov placed ninth the A final with a time of 4:42.56, while first-year
Josh Adler (Merrimac, Mass.) came in fourth in the B final with a season-best time of 4:45.46.
Senior
Zackary Cheung (Monterey Park, Calif.) earned the final spot in the A final of the 200 IM with a season-best time of 1:54.23 in Friday morning's prelims and placed 10th overall with a time of 1:55.51 in the finals. The top individual time of the night came in the B final of the 50 free as McFarlane missed a school record by just 0.13 seconds on the way to placing first with a time of 20.60.

Phillip Spiridonov (Ridgewood, N.J.) and McFarlane also placed fifth in the A final of the 200 free relay to begin the night with a time of 1:22.83.
Babson had a number of swimmers recording their top times of the season in Friday morning's prelims, including junior
Jason Zeliph (Voorheesville, N.Y.) touching the wall in a time of 5:01.45 in the 500 free and both Rhee (1:58.07) and sophomore
Liam Maloney (Tampa, Fla.), who registered a time of 1:58.64 in the 200 IM. All ten of the team's competitors posted season-best times in the 50 free with Hong narrowly missing the B final with his time of 21.64.
Day three of the conference meet gets underway with prelims at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the finals set to begin at 6 p.m.
MEET NOTES
• McFarlane's time of 20.60 in the 50 free ranks second on the program's list of top performers behind only Aaron Huynh's mark of 20.47 achieved back in 2020.
• Iglar's time of 4:37.78 in the 500 free moves him up to fourth, while Adler is now eighth in the same event with his time of 4:45.46.
