No. 7 Field Hockey Resumes NEWMAC Play at WPI on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers have a 29-15 advantage over WPI in the all-time series that dates back to 1985.
• Babson has won 14 in a row over the Engineers since a 3-2 loss in Worcester in 2011.
• The Green and White have outscored WPI 46-5 in those 14 games with nine shutouts.

LAST MEETING
• Laney Reed '26 and Caroline DiGiovanni '26 tallied a pair of first-half goals as No. 6 Babson blanked visiting WPI, 2-0, on October 4, 2025, at MacDowell Field.
• Sophomore Madison Tibbals registered her second shutout of the season for the Beavers, which had a 20-3 margin in total shots and a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal.
• Junior Myles Lakin made 10 saves in goal for the Engineers for a fourth double-digit save effort on the season.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 7 Babson (6-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 2-0 loss to No. 1 Tufts on Tuesday evening in Medford.
• Tibbals made a season-high nine saves in goal for the Beavers, who outshot the Jumbos 10-3 in the second and third quarters before surrendering a pair of fourth-quarter goals. Juniors Penny Baroni and Charlotte Roe each put two shots on goal to lead the offense in the setback.
• Senior Helen DiGiovanni (7-0-14) has career highs in goals and points, including a team-high three game-winning goals, and leads the Beavers in scoring. Baroni (5-3-13) had a three-game point streak stopped at Tufts, and junior Lauren Golden (3-0-6), first-year Kate Schneider (3-0-6) and senior Grace Mullaney (2-2-6) are tied for third on the team with six points. Senior Emma Smith has a team-high four assists.
• Tibbals (1.29 GAA, 23 saves) is second in the NEWMAC in goals against average and is tied for second with three shutouts.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• WPI (5-5, 3-0 NEWMAC) posted its second one-goal conference victory in a row with a 2-1 overtime verdict over Wheaton on Tuesday evening in Worcester.
• Senior Sophie Papamechail scored twice, including the game-winner 3:42 into overtime, as WPI rallied from an early deficit. First-year Violet Westberg registered an assist, and Lakin recorded four saves in the victory.
• Junior Madeline Chase (4-0-8) tops the squad in scoring while juniors Emma Barton (2-3-7) and Ella Reeners (1-3-5) share the team lead in assists. Junior Kyra Duane and Papamechail have two goals each for the Engineers, who has scored 14 goals and given up 14 goals this season.
• Lakin has started nine of the 10 games for WPI and ranks third in the NEWMAC with a 1.30 goals against average, leads the league with an .819 save percentage and is tied for second with three shutouts.

NEWMAC DOMINANCE
• Babson has won 79 consecutive NEWMAC regular season games over the last 11 years. The last regular season loss was a 1-0 verdict at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.
• The Beavers have captured 55 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents including the conference tournament, since the start of the 2021 campaign. The last setback was a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.
• The Green and White have won 10 consecutive NEWMAC regular season titles since 2015 and have captured five straight tournament championships since 2021.

MULTI-GOAL GAMES
• The Beavers have had six times this season when a player scored at least two goals in a game.
• DiGiovanni scored twice in games against Endicott and Wellesley, Baroni notched two goals against Saint Joseph's (Maine) and three vs. the University of New England, and Golden (Wellesley) and Schneider (Mount Holyoke) each have one two-goal performance.

WINS AND LOSSES
• The Beavers have outscored their opponents 24-1 in their six victories with five shutouts.
• The Green and White have been outscored 10-1 in their three losses and blanked twice.
• Babson is 2-3 this season against nationally ranked teams, all of which were top 10 opponents.

BEAVER BITES
• DiGiovanni has a career-high seven goals this season, matching her total of the last two years combined and one shy of her career total entering the season.
• Baroni has scored at least five goals in each of her first three seasons, highlighted by a career-high 11 goals last season.
• Senior Emma Smith leads the team and is tied for second in the NEWMAC with four assists.
• Tibbals has started 32 consecutive games dating back to last fall and owns 12 career shutouts.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson finished 9-0 in the month of October last year and is 65-0 in the 10th month going back to 2018.
• The Green and White has won 36 games in a row going back to 2024 and is 97-2 since 2021 when scoring the first goal of the game.
• Going back to 2023, the Green and White have won their last 56 games when scoring at least two goals.
• The Beavers have won 90 consecutive games when leading at halftime.

• The Beavers will play their third straight road game on Tuesday against MIT at 6 p.m. in Cambridge.
