Women's Basketball Tops Mount Holyoke for Third Straight Win, 79-50

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) led all players with 18 points and 13 rebounds as Babson College defeated visiting Mount Holyoke College, 79-50, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

With its third straight win, Babson improves to 12-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Mount Holyoke has dropped its last five contests to slip to 4-15 overall and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.

Senior Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) scored a season-high 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and five assists, while sophomore Julia St. Laurent (Greenland, N.H.) and first-year Molly Donovan (Duxbury, Mass.) added 12 points apiece to pace the Beavers. Flynn also blocked two shots, while St. Laurent chipped in with a pair of rejections and two steals.

Junior Hannah Goen (New London, N.H.) scored 15 points and senior Taryn White (Alexandria, Va.) contributed six points and 10 rebounds for the Lyons.

Perreault and St. Laurent combined for nine of Babson's first 11 points and Donovan canned a free throw to give the hosts an 18-5 advantage with just over three minutes to play in the opening period. Mount Holyoke responded with an 11-5 spurt to cut its deficit to 23-16 on a free throw by first-year Justine Dessureault (Trois-Rivieres, Quebec) 70 seconds into the second quarter before the Beavers answered with a 14-4 burst that included points from five different players to regain a 37-20 edge with 2:45 left until halftime.

Sophomore Ania McMichael (Glastonbury, Conn.) drilled a pair of three-pointers as the Lyons scored the final eight points of the first half, and the visitors got as close as seven on a bucket by Goen just past the midway point of the third quarter before the Green and White created separation with another 14-4 run. First-year Alyssa Hopps (Quincy, Mass.) and Perreault got things started with back-to-back three-point plays, St. Laurent and Flynn closed the third with consecutive buckets, and Perreault buried a jumper just over a minute into the third stretching the lead back to 55-38.

Flynn and Rosenberg hit back-to-back triples to make it 65-42 with 6:20 remaining and Donovan scored eight points over the span of three possessions to give Babson a 75-48 edge with just over a minute to play.

The Beavers shot 43.5 percent from the floor, outscored Mount Holyoke 38-22 in the paint and finished with a 55-37 rebounding advantage. The Lyons, who scored 14 second-chance points, shot just 27.1 percent from the floor in the loss.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as Babson travels to Emerson, while Mount Holyoke hosts WPI.
