BABSON PARK, Mass.— Sophomore
Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) finished first in a pair of individual events and swam on a winning relay team as Babson College won 11 of the 13 events to defeat Bridgewater State University, 163-62, in the final home women's swimming and diving meet of the season Saturday afternoon inside the Morse Pool.
With the victory, the Beavers up their record to 6-3-1 on the season while the Bears drop to 1-5 in dual meets.
Turhan was the winner of the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:04.69 and the 500 free in a time of 5:40.57. She also swam the anchor leg of the 200 free relay on a team that included senior
Sophia Sznewajs (Edina, Minn.), first-year
Lakshmi Prasanth (Apex, N.C.) and sophomore
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.), clocking in at a time of 1:46.57.
Turhan helped the Beavers swept the freestyle events, as first-year
AJ Hallbert (Enterprise, Ala.) won the 50 in 26.35 seconds, classmate
Middy Hinckley (Trent Woods, N.C.) took the 100 in 57.71 seconds, and sophomore
Samantha Gilbert (Arlington, Va.) finished first in the 1000 in 11:37.10.
The Beavers also brought home first place in four 200-yard races, as sophomore
Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) won the 200 IM in 2:19.08, Gershanok captured the 200 butterfly in 2:24.87, first-year
Becky Hwang (Needham, Mass.) finished first in the 200 back in 2:18.07, and sophomore
Hailey Cronan (New Market, Md.) touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:47.70.
Babson won the first relay event as Hwang, Cronan, and first-years
Finn Bergquist (Marblehead, Mass.) and
Leila Evans (Sandwich, Mass.) took the 200 medley relay in 2:01.51.
The Green and White finished 1-2-3 in a number of events, starting with the 1000 free with Gilbert first, junior
Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) second in 12:16.64, and junior
Nicolette Newsome (Bridgewater, N.J.) third in 12:50.13. Turhan led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free, followed by Bergquist in second in 2:10.08, and senior
Jenny Chung (Cumming, Ga.) third in 2:10.54.
Hallbert led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 free ahead of Gershanok in 27.11 and Evans in 27.30. Hwang was followed in the 200 back by Gilbert in second in 2:21.78 and Prasanth in third in 2:26.11, and Turhan led the way in the 500 free followed by Hallbert in 5:47.71 and Netishen in 6:00.05.
Other runner-up finishes were recorded by senior
Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.) in the 200 IM in 2:28.37, Cronan in the 200 fly in 2:38.76, and Snewajs in the 100 free in 58.05.
Babson will travel across town for a dual meet at Wellesley next Saturday at 11 a.m.
