NEWPORT, R.I. — The Babson College women's tennis team got its dual match season off to a strong start as six players won in both singles and doubles on the way to a 7-0 whitewash of Salve Regina University in the New England England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener Saturday at the Salve Regina Tennis Courts.
The Beavers begin the season with a 1-0 record both overall and in conference play while Salve Regina is 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
The Green and White dropped just three games across three sets to claim the doubles point. Sophomores
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) were 6-1 winners in the top flight, juniors
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and
Riya Matharoo (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) won the second flight, 6-2; and senior
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) and first-year
Manuela Moscoso (Quito, Ecuador) cruised to a 6-0 victory at number three.
Cristiani earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number one singles for the Beavers, while all of the other singles matches were Babson victories by 6-0, 6-0 scores. These included Matharoo at number two, Sorrentino at number three, Moscoso at four, Kamal at five, and Starcher at six.
The Beavers will be in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday, competing at the Holy Cross Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m.
