VERO BEACH, Fla.—Babson College first-year
Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) was selected as the program's the Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) Golfer of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.
Bansal was terrific in her collegiate debut winning all four of her matches in Wellesley's Ann Batchelder Match Play last weekend at Nehoiden Golf Club. She defeated Renna Chang of No. 9 Amherst (2&1) and Jessica Li of No. 8 Wellesley (2&1) on Saturday and followed it up by beating Ella Han of No. 14 Middlebury 3&1 and routing Emilia Rose of No. 25 Bowdoin 8&7 in Sunday's matches.
Bansal carded a 4-over 76 on day one of the tournament and fired a 1-over 73 that included four birdies in Sunday's final round.
The Beavers are one of seven founding members of the CWGC along with Carlow (Pa.), Christopher Newport (Va.), Kean (N.J.), Penn State Altoona, Salisbury (Md.), and Stockton (N.J.). The league was formed last March and will hold its inaugural conference championship on October 27-28 at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford, Pa.
Babson, which finished 2-2 at last weekend's match play event, will play its first stroke play tournament of the season on September 27-28 when it travels to Taconic Golf Club for the Williams Invitational.
