MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—Senior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), junior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and first-year
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) all recorded wins in both singles and doubles to help No. 14 Babson College defeat UMass Boston, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon inside the Nelson Recreation Center.
Babson, which has now reached the second round in all four of its NCAA Tournament appearances, improves to 15-6 on the year. UMass Boston, which was playing in its third straight NCAA Tournament, sees its season come to a close at 14-3.
The Beavers got off to a fast start in doubles and secured the opening point of the match while dropping just two games.

Matia Cristiani defeated graduate student Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) and sophomore Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India) 6-1 at number one, while junior
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Alessandra Cristiani breezed to a 6-0 victory over the Beacons' duo of senior Elena Albano (Haverhill, Mass.) and junior Shreya Saravana Rakshana (Bengaluru, India) at number two.
Babson sophomore
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and first-year
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) also led sophomore Sandra Watson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and first-year Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) 5-1 at number three when the point was clinched.
Matia Cristiani earned the first singles point of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Chan at number two singles, while sister Alessandra followed with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over senior Ayonna Stuppard (Randolph, Mass.) at number three.
Olivia Soffer wrapped up the match in just under 90 minutes with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Patel at number one singles.
Chaniel Soffer led Albano 6-3, 3-0 at number four, while junior
Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) was in front 1-0 for the Beavers when the match was decided.
Babson will face No. 13 Johns Hopkins in the second round on Saturday at 2 p.m.
