Anderson, Merson From Men’s Tennis Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Senior Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.) and junior Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) of the Babson College men's tennis program were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team on Tuesday afternoon.

Both student-athletes were recognized by CSC for the first time in their careers, and are now eligible for the Academic All-America teams, which will be announced next month.

Since 1952, CSC has honored more than 40,000 outstanding student-athletes across the NCAA. To be eligible, a tennis student-athlete maintain a GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale and must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition.

A Finance major, Anderson earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Athlete of the Year recognition for a Babson team that is enjoying the most successful season in program history. He has posted a 14-11 record in singles, including a 12-6 mark in dual matches and 5-0 against opponents from the NEWMAC. He has gone 3-3 at number one singles and 9-3 at number two. He has also posted a 20-7 record in doubles, including 16-3 in dual matches and 6-0 against conference foes, going 2-0 at number one doubles and 13-3 at number two. A four-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar All-America and two-time All-NEWMAC selection in both singles and doubles, Anderson sports a career record of 40-32 in singles and 50-29 in doubles.

A transfer from Brandeis University and a Business major, Merson has been a strong contributor in his first season with the Beavers. He has posted an 18-5 singles record to rank second of the team in wins, including 15-2 in dual matches and 3-1 against NEWMAC opponents. He has played throughout the singles line-up, going 1-0 at number one, 2-1 at number two, 6-0 at number three, 5-1 at number four and 1-0 at number five. He also leads the team in doubles victories with a 22-5 mark, including 18-2 in dual matches and 5-0 against conference foes. He is 16-2 at number one doubles and 2-0 at number three.

No. 14 Babson (22-2) went 7-0 in conference matches and captured its second NEWMAC championship on April 28. The Beavers posted a pair of NCAA Division III victories last weekend over No. 36 Stavens and No. 8 Bowdoin to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals against No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on May 19 in Claremont, Calif.
