NEW LONDON, Conn.— The Babson College men's track & field team captured first place in three events and placed second in three events on the way to a fourth-place team finish at the annual Coast Guard Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Nitchman Track.
With 13 Top-8 finishes, the Beavers finished fourth out of 10 teams with 76 points, eight points ahead of host and fifth-place Coast Guard (68). UMass Dartmouth captured the team title with 147 points, with Eastern Connecticut (104) and Farmingdale State (95) rounding out the top three.
First-years
Dominic Smith (Aspen, Colo.) and
Patrick Allardi (Andover, Mass.) finished in first place in their respective events to lead the Beavers. Smith and classmate
Noa Wong (Kaneohe, Hawaii) recorded a 1-2 finish in the 400 meters with times of 50.91 and 50.92 seconds, respectively, while Allardi was one of four Beavers to finish in the top eight in the 110-meter hurdles; Allardi was first with a time of 15.41 seconds, sophomore
Gabe Rosenberg (Silver Spring, Md.) was fourth in 16.26, first-year
Evan Dang (Fremont, Calif.) was fifth in 16.37, and classmate
Matthew Vilela (Framingham, Mass.) was eighth in 16.93.
Babson was successful in both relay races. The team of Smith, first-year
Jackson Adams (Norwell, Mass.), Wong, and sophomore
Stratton Seymour (Merrimac, Mass.) won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:27.27, and the quartet of first-year
Aithan Bezanson (Danvers, Mass.), Wong, Allardi and Smith finished runner-up in the 4x100 meter relay in 43.46 seconds, just 0.46 seconds behind UMass Dartmouth.
Adams also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.57 seconds. First-year
Sam Zabbo (Warwick, R.I.) ran the 5000 meters in a time of 16:07.51 to place ninth in a field of 23.
The Beavers had five athletes finish in the top-9 in field events. Bezanson was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 157-feet, 11-inches; junior
Joseph Addotta (Ridgefield, Conn.) was sixth in the discus with a mark of 124-feet, 7-inches; first-year
Brett White (Barrington, R.I.) came in sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 136-feet, 5-inches; Vilela finished eighth in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 5-inches; and senior
Will Dean (Belmont, Mass.) was ninth in the long jump with a mark of 19-feet, 9-inches.
The Beavers return to action at the UMass Amherst Multi-Meet on Wednesday and Thursday in Amherst.
