CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Babson College men's track & field team took first place in one event, set one program record and recorded a pair of New England Division III Championships qualifying times at the Sean Collier Invitational Saturday afternoon at MIT's Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track.
Sophomore
Chris McDonough (North Attleboro, Mass.) captured the individual title in the 100-meter dash for the second year in a row, crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 10.56 seconds, just 0.02 seconds off his program record and 0.02 seconds ahead of runner-up MIT junior Nolan Clement. His time is ranked 34th in Division III this spring.
The Beavers had several strong performances in the 400-meter hurdles, led by first-years
Aithan Bezanson (Danvers, Mass.) and
Jackson Adams (Norwell, Mass.). Bezanson finished runner-up in a time of 54.94 seconds, breaking the program record of 56.52 by sophomore
Stratton Seymour (Merrimac, Mass.) set last May, and Adams took third place in 56.92 seconds, a time that qualifies him for the New England Division III championships next month. Seymour finished ninth in a time of 59.56 in the race, which was won by Brown first-year John Mueller, who ran a 54.91 to nip Bezanson by 0.03 seconds.
Graduate student
Matthew Campbell (South Easton, Mass.) finished third in Saturday's 5000 meters in a time of 16:06.97. Fellow grad student
Ryan Wilson (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) was fourth in the 1500 meters in a season-best time of 4:02.07.
Babson's 4x100-meter relay team of Bezanson and fellow first-years
Noa Wong (Kaneohe, Hawaii),
Patrick Allardi (Andover, Mass.) and
Dominic Smith (Aspen, Colo.) placed fourth in a season-best time of 43.35 seconds. Wong and Smith also placed seventh and eighth in the 400 meters in 50.43 and 50.53, respectively, with Wong meeting the New England Division III qualifying mark.
Bezanson took fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.27 seconds and sophomore
Gabe Rosenberg (Silver Spring, Md.) finished 10th in 15.91 seconds.
The top Babson performances in field events were sophomore
Coleman Hayes (New York, N.Y.) finishing eighth in the shot put with a career-best mark of 41-feet, 9.5-inches, and junior
Joseph Addotta (Ridgefield, Conn.) taking 10th in the discus with a heave of 123-feet, 11-inches.
With the regular season in the books, Babson heads to Mount Holyoke College for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships next Friday and Saturday in South Hadley, Mass.
