No. 13 Men's Tennis at Springfield
Saturday, April 19 | 11 a.m.
Appleton Tennis Courts | Springfield, Mass.

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 21-6 all-time against Springfield in a series that dates back to 2000.
•    The Beavers have won 11 straight and 15 of the last 16 matches between the teams going back to 2008.
•    The Green and White has not dropped more than a point to the Pride in 11 consecutive matches going back to 2013.

LAST MEETING
•    Junior Martin Mejia and Jonah Wilson M'24 were among three players to record victories in both singles and doubles to help the Beavers coast to a 9-0 win over Springfield on April 20, 2024, in Babson Park.
•    Senior Wesley Zhang and sophomore Mattias Harrell also won in singles for Babson, which claimed all six matches in straight sets.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 13 Babson (16-2, 6-0 NEWMAC) has won its last five matches after breezing past Salve Regina 7-0 in less than 90 minutes on Thursday afternoon.
•    Zhang and sophomore Louis Bourn teamed up for a 6-0 win at number three doubles and both recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles for the Beavers, who dropped just two games in nine matches against the Seahawks.
•    First-year Edward Wang is 19-4 overall and 5-3 at number three singles, Mendoza (15-7) is 12-3 in dual matches, junior Alexander Merson has won nine consecutive matches to improve to 13-5 on the year, and Harrell is 12-2 in all matches
•    Merson and senior Ole Lepsoe are 9-2 at number one doubles, first-year Sebastian Mendoza and senior Brady Anderson have gone 8-2 at number two and Zhang and Wang own a 4-3 mark at number three this spring.

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
•    Springfield (13-2, 5-1 NEWMAC) has won four straight matches and is coming off a 7-0 victory over Coast Guard on Thursday afternoon.
•    The Pride, which suffered its only conference loss of the spring at MIT on April 2, can earn a share of the league's regular season title with a win over the Beavers.
•    Springfield's 13 wins this spring also matched the single-season program record set back in 1989.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
•    The Beavers clinched at least a share of their second NEWMAC regular season title in three seasons with Thursday's win over Salve Regina and can finish league play undefeated for the fourth time in school history with a win on Saturday.
•    A victory over the Pride would also give Babson the top seed and home court advantage in next week's NEWMAC Tournament.

RISING UP THE RECORD BOOKS
•    Wang's 19th singles win of the season on Thursday matched the program's single-season school record record set by David Weisman '98, who finished a perfect 19-0 back in 1998 on the way to capturing the program's only NCAA Division III singles title.
•    Coupled with his 12 doubles victories, Wang also passed Jon Martin's '05 single-season record of 30 combined wins set back in 2003-04.
•    Additionally, Anderson and Lepsoe matched the Beavers' single-season record of 16 doubles wins held by Martin (2003-04), Mike Brooks '05 (2003-04), Brandon Rosenbluth '18 (2016-17) and Parker Law '23 (2022-23) on Thursday, while Merson (15) and Mendoza (14) are just one and two wins shy of the mark.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Babson's 16 wins are the second most in single-season program history and are just three one away from the program record of 17 victories set back in 2022-23.
•    The Beavers have won 12 consecutive matches at both number four and number five singles dating back to March 16.
•    The Green and White is 15-0 this season when leading after doubles.

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers will host a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal next Friday at 3 p.m.
