Baseball Rallies to Beat Lasell, 11-5

Beavers Score 11 Unanswered Runs to Erase Early 5-0 Deficit, Snap Lasers' Five-Game Winning Streak

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Justin Guest (West Windsor, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and junior Connor Doan (Pasadena, Texas) tossed 4.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen as Babson College rallied from a five-run deficit to defeat visiting Lasell University, 11-5, in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Govoni Field.

Babson, which snapped a two-game skid, improves to 15-8 on the year. Lasell, which had won five straight and 11 of its last 12 outings, is now 18-8 overall.

Graduate student Brant Savage (Charlton, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs scored, sophomore Jack Moses (Belle Mead, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, and classmate Alexander Wilson (Millburn, N.J.) knocked in a pair of runs for the Beavers, who scored 11 unanswered runs to pull away. Doan, who came on with one out in the fourth, struck out two and gave up just two hits to improve to 2-0 with the win.

Graduate student Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and classmate Scott Lyon (Weston, Conn.) singled and drove in two runs for the Lasers, who got a hit from six different players in the loss. Senior Jeremy Blackwood (Windsor, Conn.) started and gave up three runs on seven hits over 4.0 innings, while first-year Chase Supan (West Haven, Conn.) dropped to 1-1 with loss after giving up three earned runs in 1.1 innings of work.

Down 5-0 going to the bottom of the fourth, Moses stroked a two-out double to left, graduate student Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) worked a walk and both players came around to score on Wilson's base hit to center to cut the Babson deficit to 5-2. Guest made it 5-4 with a two-run single back up the middle an inning later and took Supan deep with two outs to tie the game.

Doan cruised through the top of the sixth and the Beavers followed by sending 11 men to the plate and scoring six times to bust the game open in the bottom of the frame. Graduate student Jack Julian (Manchester, Mass.)  brought home Moses with the go-ahead run thanks to a perfectly executed squeeze bunt and Lasell threw the ball into right field allowing Wilson to score all the way from first to make it 7-5.

Junior Zander Teator (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) lined a single back up the middle to bring home Julian for an 8-5 lead, classmate Chris Basile (Miami Beach, Fla.) worked a bases loaded walk to make it a four-run game, and a two-out error by the Lasers allowed both Savage and sophomore Ryan Liss (Hollywood, Fla.) to come home for an 11-5 cushion.

Doan retired 10 straight batters through the middle innings before Audet reached on a two-out single through the right side in the top of the eighth.

Babson is back in action on Wednesday as it travels to Tufts at 3:30 p.m., while Lasell visits Saint Joseph (Conn.) for a doubleheader on Friday starting at 12 p.m.
