No. 20 Men's Lacrosse to Host Salve Regina at MacDowell Field on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 3-1 all-time against Salve Regina in a series that dates back to 2009.
• Last year's game in Middletown, R.I., was the first between the two teams since 2011.
• The Seahawks captured the first meeting in Babson Park back in 2009 and the Beavers took the only other one at MacDowell Field at 2011.

 LAST MEETING
Jared Rainville M'24 tallied five points on four goals and an assist and No. 13/11 Babson ran off seven consecutive third-quarter goals to pull away from Salve for an 18-9 victory on April 13, 2024, at Gaudet Field.
• Graduate students Jacob Tauss (4 goals) and Topher Bower (4 assists) and sophomore Luke Wang (3g, 1a) collected four points apiece, and sophomore Seamus Rooney and junior Bennett Smith chipped in with three points each. Junior Tyee Ambrosh had two CTs and three GBs, and senior goalie Alex Fascilla posted his 11th straight double-digit save performance with 15 stops for the Beavers.
• Graduate student Liam Cooney scored three goals and added two assists for the Seahawks, and junior Daniel Naglieri tallied a goal and two assists. Max Beauchamp '24 scored twice, senior Jack Naglieri recorded three caused turnovers and four ground balls, and junior William Kein and sophomore Andrew Hazard combined for 23 saves in the Seahawk goal.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 20 USILA Babson (9-3, 3-1 NEWMAC) brings a three-game winning streak into the weekend after a 15-3 rout of Emerson last Friday in Boston.
• The Beavers got goals from 11 different players and Fascilla collected 12 saves and a career-high eight ground balls in the win. Sophomore Andrew Berardi had two goals and one assist, while Bower and fellow grad student Justin Greene and junior Braden Reilly each scored twice to lead the Beavers' balanced attack. Rooney contributed a goal and two assists, junior Will Reading and first-year Beck Trafton won 16-of-22 face-offs and both collected three ground balls.
• Rooney (20-18-38) has at least one goal in 11 of 12 games this season, Matthews (26-6-32) leads the team in goals, and Smith (13-10-23) has a team-high five man-up goals. Greene (17-3-20), who is third on the team in goals, and sophomore Sam Sisk (11-9-20) give the Beavers five 20-point scorers, while Bower (6-12-18) is second on the team in assists.
• Graduate Student Tripp Clark (15 CTs, 40 GBs) and seniors Brendan Maher (11 CTs, 23 GBs) and Gavin Bailey (10 CTs, 13 GBs) anchor a defense that allows a league-leading 8.5 goals per game. Fascilla (8-3, 8.28 GAA, .595 sv. pct) ranks 19th in Division III in goals against average and 22nd in save percentage.

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
• Salve Regina (11-2, 4-0 NEWMAC) is coming off back-to-back 11-10 overtime conference victories over Emerson on March 29 and Wheaton on April 5 at Gaudet Field.
• First-year Heath Sumwalt tallied three goals and two assists, including the overtime game-winner against Wheaton, while junior Chris Koltzan scored three times, classmate Christopher Bethoney had two goals and two assists and senior Mason Barbone added a pair of goals. Senior Justin Haverly won 11-of-16 face-offs and scooped up eight ground balls, Jack Naglieri recorded three caused turnovers and seven ground balls, and Hazard made 18 saves in the Seahawk goal for the win.
• Daniel Naglieri (24-36-60) leads the NEWMAC in assists and ranks third in points while Koltzan (34-14-48) leads the league in goals per game. Sumwalt (21-14-35) and Cooney (19-11-30) are also offensive threats, along with Bethoney (12-10-22) and junior Casey Johnson (11-11-22). The Seahawks have three strong face-off men in Haverly (76-98, .776), junior Adam Laber (76-125, .608) and first-year Nate Strassberger (55-89, .618).
• Jack Naglieri (25 CTs, 61 GBs) leads the Seahawks defense along with fellow seniors Gavin Johnson (16 CTs, 34 GBs) and Daniel Bourdeau (14 CTs, 14 GBs). Hazard (8.38 GAA, .587 sv. pct) is 5-2 in seven starts between the pipes while Kein (8.06 GAA, .493 sv. pct) is 3-0 in five starts.

FASCILLA RECEIVES WEEKLY HONORS
• After being named NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday, Fascilla earned a spot on the USILA Team of the Week on Wednesday.
• The Babson netminder finished with a 4.08 goals against average and stopped 23 of 30 shots for .767 save percentage in a pair of double-digit wins. He has been selected the conference defensive athlete of the week five times in his career and a USILA Team of the Week member three times.

STANDINGS UPDATE
• Springfield (4-0) and Salve Regina (3-0) enter the weekend as the last two remaining unbeaten teams in NEWMAC play, while Babson (3-1) is close behind.
• Coast Guard (2-2) and MIT (2-2) are in line to earn the final two playoff spots, with Wheaton (1-2) still in the running.
• Each team will play seven conference games this spring. Other than the Babson-Salve contest, key games remaining include Coast Guard at Springfield on Saturday, Springfield at Salve Regina on April 19, and MIT at Salve and Babson at Coast Guard on April 26.

COMFORTS OF HOME
• Babson is 6-1 at MacDowell Field this spring and is 15-1 going back to the start of last season.
• The Beavers have outscored their six opponent 102-61 at home this spring.

SUCCESS AT THE X
• Reading has won 53-of-75 face-offs over his last five games (.706) and first-year Beck Trafton has captured 29-of-47 (617) in his last six contests.
• The Beavers have a .541 face-off percentage on the season, including .667 over the last three contests.
• The Green and White are 7-0 this season and 22-1 over the past two seasons when winning at least 50 percent of the face-offs.

BUSY BEAVERS
• Smith now has a point in 18 consecutive games, while Rooney has extended his points streak to 12.
• Matthews has multi-goal games in nine of his 12 outings this spring.
• Greene has a six-game goal scoring streak with five multi-goal games in that span.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Bower sits in 10th place on Babson career scoring list with 149 points (61g, 85a) and third on the all-time assist list.
• Smith (46g, 70a, 116pts) has moved up to sixth place on the program's career assists list.
• Maher is sixth all-time with 66 caused turnovers, and graduate student Sammy Kalishman is 13th on Babson's career list with 161 ground balls.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers have won 20 of their last 21 games versus NEWMAC foes dating back to 2023.
• Babson is 8-0 this season when scoring at least 14 goals in a game and 9-0 when reaching double digits in goals.
• The Beavers are 7-1 this season and 33-2 over the past three seasons when leading at halftime.
• The Green and White are 18-0 over the past three seasons when holding the opponents to eight goals or less.
