Louis Bourn (Geneva, Switzerland) and
Mattias Harrell (Oslo, Norway) all produced points in both singles and doubles as 13th-ranked Babson College rolled past the US Coast Guard Academy, 7-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts.
With the victory, the Beavers have won seven of their last eight matches to improve to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in NEWMAC play, while Coast Guard has lost two straight to dip to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in conference matches.
Senior
Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.) and first-year
Sabastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.) also posted wins in singles for the Beavers, and juniors
Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia) and
Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) were on winning doubles teams for the Green and White.
The Beavers captured the doubles point by winning all three sets. Harrell and Weber took down junior Benjamin Carlander (Monument, Colo.) and sophomore Noah Reice (Wilmington, Del.) at number three, 6-1; Mejia and Bourn blanked first-years Anthony Gregoire (Hagatna, Guam) and Konnor Eslinger (St. Charles, Mo.) at number two, 6-0; and Lepsoe and Merson were 6-3 winners over sophomore Ben Bonetto (Bend, Ore) and junior Brendan Love (Winchester, Va.) in the top flight.
Babson cruised to easy victories in five of the six singles matches. Bourn defeated Eslinger at number four, 6-1, 6-1, Harrell downed Carlander at number five, 6-1, 6-0, and Weber put away Reice at number six, 6-0, 6-1, to clinch the team victory.
Mendoza took care of Gregoire at number three, 6-1, 6-0, and Anderson was too strong for Love at number two, 6-2, 6-1. In the only match that went to three sets, Lepsoe came back from a set down to defeat Bonetto, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
Both teams are back in action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., as the Beavers are home again for a key NEWMAC match against No. 30 MIT and Coast Guard travels to Clark.
MATCH NOTES
• Babson has won 18 of its last 19 matches versus Coast Guard and is now 26-7 against the Bears dating back to 2001.
• The Beavers have won their last six NEWMAC regular season matches by a combined scored of 45-3 dating back to last season.
