No. 20 Women's Tennis Cruises Past Smith in NEWMAC Opener, 7-0

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—Senior Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), junior Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) and first-year Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) all win in both singles and doubles to help 20th-ranked Babson College defeat Smith College, 7-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Friday afternoon. 

With its third straight win, Babson improves to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Smith has dropped consecutive matches to slip to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the NEWMAC. 

The Beavers were victorious in two of three matches to earning the opening point of the contest in doubles. Dorismond and junior Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) were 6-0 winners at number three, while Olivia Soffer and Stasiowska recorded a 6-4 triumph at number one. The Pioneers earned their only win of the afternoon at number two doubles as sophomore Ayla Hauser (Knoxville, Tenn.) and junior Marielle Sauber (The Woodlands, Texas) edged sophomore Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and first-year Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador), 6-4. 

All six of Babson's points in singles came in straight sets as Olivia Soffer downed Hauser 6-0, 6-4 at number one, Chaniel Soffer was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Sauber at number two and Cristiani cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at number three. Dorismond posted a 6-2, 6-3 result at number four, Stasiowska recorded a 6-2, 7-5 victory at number five and sophomore Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at number six. 

Babson returns to action on Sunday when it travels across town to face No. 24 Wellesley at 12 p.m., while Smith hosts Connecticut College on Saturday at 1 p.m. 

MATCH NOTES
•    The Beavers are 19-10 all-time against Smith and have won 15 consecutive matches in the series dating back to 2007.
•    Olivia Soffer improved to 18-0 all-time in NEWMAC singles matches. 
•    Babson has won 62 of its last 64 matches when leading after doubles going back to 2018.
