Men's Lacrosse Takes on No. 14 Middlebury in Maryland on Tuesday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 1-4 all-time against Middlebury in a series that dates back to 1981.
• Following the first two games in 1981 and 1983, the teams did not play for 39 years until the series rekindled in the last three years.
• After a three-goal loss at Middlebury in 2023, the Beavers posted their first victory in the series last year in Babson Park.

LAST MEETING
• Senior goalie Alex Fascilla made a career-high 16 saves and a stifling Babson defense limited No. 6/5 Middlebury to just two second-half goals as the Beavers defeated the Panthers, 8-6, on March 10, 2024, at MacDowell Field.
• The Beaver defense kept the Panthers scoreless for more than 20 straight minutes, as Chip Quinn M'24 led the way with a caused turnover and team-high five ground balls. Sophomore Seamus Rooney scored two of his game-high three goals in the fourth quarter while graduate student Topher Bower finished with a goal and two assists. Jared Rainville M'24 and graduate student Jacob Tauss contributed a goal and an assist each, and graduate student James Turco M'24 won 8-of-13 faceoffs for the Beavers.
• Senior Billy Curtis tallied two goals and an assist and junior Logan White scored twice for the Panthers. Senior William Munroe for 8-of-16 faceoffs and junior goalie Hayden Kern made his presence known with nine saves, two caused turnovers, and five ground balls.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (4-2, 0-1 NEWMAC), ranked 20th in Division III by the USILA, had a 17-game conference winning streak snapped in a 9-6 loss Saturday at Springfield.
• Sophomore Camden Matthews led all players with three goals, while Rooney and juniors Bennett Smith and Luke D'Orsi each scored once for the Beavers. Graduate student Sammy Kalishman tied for game-high honors with five ground balls, junior Will Reading won 7-of-15 face-offs, and Fascilla made 10 saves in the loss.
• Rooney (12-9-21) has scored at least one goal in all six games this season, Smith (9-6-15) has a team-high four man-up goals, and Matthews (13-1-14) has matched his offensive totals from all of last season. Bower (1-10-11) is seventh in the NEWMAC in assists, and Reading has a .514 face-off percentage (57-111) and collected 29 ground balls.
• Graduate Student Tripp Clark leads the team with 13 caused turnovers and 33 ground balls while sophomore Bruno Batty has forced six turnovers. Fascilla (4-2, 7.74 GAA, .581 sv. pct) ranks 26th in Division III in goals against average.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
• No. 14 USILA Middlebury (2-3, 1-2 NESCAC), ranked 18th in Division III by the USILA, has won its last two games, including an overtime victory over Union (12-11) and a 17-11 conference verdict at Bates on Saturday.
• Curtis turned in an eight-point game (5g, 3a) against the Bobcats, and senior Russell Thorndike (2-1-3), first-year Nick Marvin (2-1-3), White (2-0-2) and senior Finn McCarthy (2-0-2) all scored two goals. Munroe was good on 18-of-26 face-offs and grabbed nine ground balls, and Kern made seven saves on 15 shots in the win.
• Curtis (8-7-15), has a 19-game points streak dating back to last year, tallied his 200th career point (89-111-200) on Saturday. Senior Patrick Jamin (7-5-12) has four straight multi-point games, and junior Cooper DeMallie (6-3-9), Marvin (7-1-8), sophomore Will Ford (6-0-6) and White (5-1-6) all have at least five goals. Munroe leads the Panthers with a .471 face-off percentage (49-104) and 25 ground balls.
• Junior Drew Dummer has a team-high seven caused turnovers in front of Kern, who has an 11.36 goals against average and a .533 save percentage.

TIERNEY FIELD
• Located in Sparks, Md., at the home of USA Lacrosse, Tierney Field has a capacity of 2,000 (474 bleacher seats) and includes stadium lights, a video scoreboard and public address system, shot clocks, and a midfield tunnel to access team locker rooms.
• Several dozen men's and women's, boys and girls prep, and youth lacrosse games and tournaments are held there each year. Further information about Tierney Field

BABSON VS. THE NESCAC
• Saturday's game is the second of four contests this season against schools from the NESCAC.
• The Beavers dropped a 9-7 decision to Williams back on March 1 in Babson Park. They will also face No. 7/6 Bowdoin on March 26 in Brunswick, Maine, and No. 1/1 Tufts on April 15 in Medford.
• The Green and White are 2-3 against NESCAC opponents going back to last year and are 4-6 against the conference dating back to 2023.
• The NESCAC has four top-10 teams and five top-20 teams in this week's USILA poll.

STREAKING BEAVERS
• Bower has produced a pair of assists in five straight games to extend his points streak to 38 games.
• Smith scored once vs. Springfield and has a point in 12 consecutive outings dating back to last year.
• Rooney has scored at least one goal in all six games this season.
• Babson had its 17-game conference winning streak snapped by Springfield, dating back to 2022.

IN ITHE RECORD BOOKS
• Bower has climbed into a tie for 10th with Chi Chi Price '23 on Babson career scoring list with 142 points (58 goals, 84 assists), and he is third on the all-time assist list.
• Smith (42g, 66a, 108pts) has matched Brad Otis '00 for sixth place on the program's career assists list.
• Senior Brendan Maher is tied for sixth all-time with Drew Thomas '22 with 60 caused turnovers, and graduate student Sammy Kalishman has moved up to 14th on Babson's career list with 144 ground balls.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson was held to single-digits in scoring for the second time this season at Springfield and just the fifth time in 43 games dating back to the 2023 season.
• The Beavers were defeated for the first since in the last 18 games when recording more ground balls than their opponents, and the second time in the last 27 games going back to 2023.
• The Green and White are 1-0 this season and 4-4 over the last two seasons against ranked opponents.
